I'm not that brave haha though i have seen it done on a video. When i say I hate working with CRT's i really, really hate CRT's they kinda freak me out.

On that note, I've finally fired it up!

CRT gives a nice sharp image although I think some colour(s) are missing? I could be wrong and used to playing on MAME too much but a lot of things look a little too red and in Galaga it looks like im missing a colour on the enemy? I think? Could just be me.

Might be a dodgy micro switch? Replace or swap with another to see if problem moves. Otherwise check for continuity for ground on it and then between micros terminal and jamma connector.

Looks similar to a cab I had about 20 odd years ago, on the back does a small section at the top open up and the speaker slide out on a large piece of wood like the monitor section?

It also had the monitor chassis screwed to the side panel.

Looks like you just need a new piece of wood to fit the monitor too and then make sure its mounted centrally when horizontal and see how it lines up when vertical, you could use the current one to trace the cutout for the monitor and where to drill the mounting holes.

For the Colours it looks like you have white so they are all firing, there should be colour test bars on the 60in1 test menu, its a while since I had one but think there will be a chequer with RGB and white and should possibly be also one showing all the separate colours and white ramping up fully off to on so you can see if some cutting out early.

Could also be that the video on the 60in1 isnt perfect.

EDIT: Looks like test screen is only the full Red, Green, Blue and White squares, and doesnt have a graduated output for each colour to see if one is cutting out early.

Found it, it was the block connector.

It's some awful cheap thing which doesn't have a lock the other end and the wires are loose and popping out all over the place haha. I've done my best with it for now and its working but the entire block is going to need rewiring eventually.

Here's the basic RGB pattern in the 60 in 1.

It seems ok i think? But something does look off in person I'm not sure what it is. I'm going to fire up my Cosmic Avenger PCB shortly and see if that is ok. Like you said it's highly likely the 60 in 1 is off not the screen.

EDIT: I've turned the brightness up ever so slightly and it looks amazing now! Was just a little low.

Can anyone tell me what the hell this is?

IMG_20250213_151917_811.jpg

I think it's got something to do with the RGB signal? Not 100% sure? But whatever it is, i tried the switches and as i had my hand on the block i must have touched the screws which must some how be live because good god did it give me a shock haha!

IMG_20250213_151912_078.jpg

It goes to the neck of the CRT from the chassis through that little box.

Maybe it switches polarity of the yoke to flip the screen? Try moving them with the power OFF.

60-1s always look a bit washed out to me. I bet it looks nicer with a real pcb. Worth trying before you start adjusting imo.

That's exactly what it is, thanks! Packs a nice punch shock wise i won't forget to never touch that again haha.

I did exactly that I put my Cosmic Avenger in it and although its the wrong way, it looked really odd to start with the blue in the title screen looked like it was red but it was just the brightness so i got that sorted and it looks really good.

Spent some good time tinkering with the picture and it now looks astounding... like, super impressive!! Although i don't like to work on them.. CRT's are GORGEOUS :D

Yeah it's a nice little feature.

Should it have the ability to shock you? What voltage is running through it?

I think it could benefit from a better enclosure.

From Google:

Yokes are high current and high voltage (around 1200 volts), so it is good to be safe, but don't let the need for safety make you believe it is unwise to get into CRT repair.

Dont touch them unless the cab has been powered down for a while.

Jesus, that explains it then haha! It was one hell of a shock. That said though i would of thought the screws and box were safe to touch i think it's a bit of a bodge job to be honest. I'd honestly love to be more confident around CRT's. I grew up to be an IT tech and the general rule of thumb was never mess with PSU's nor CRT's. I've taken it little bit too literal i think.

Nice progress mate , I hate CRT's as well. I have no clue about them as never realy had anything to do with them. We could do with a thread " What you can and cant touch on a CRT ! " lol.

Did you nearly deficate ? Lol

Dave.

No it wasn't haha I got a good belt off it. Nearly? Mate the washing machine went on strike :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I've been playing the cab all evening. God i love it! I've discovered a new favourite too... Juno First. I've never heard of it till today but damn its a great game! Gives me Robotron vibes (kind of) it's such a cool game. I'd love to get Raiden II on this too so i think a Mister or Raspberry Pi with Jamma will be in the not so distant future for this cab.
