HOW TO...! (Explanation)
Well, as almost everyone knows, the side art of Nintendo's "Donkey Kong" is a partial art, that is, it does not occupy the entire side of the arcade cabinet, but is arranged in a very characteristic oval space . If we asked tomorrow or whenever, a side art print from the vector format file found on the web, they would give us a rectangular piece, which we would not know very well how to manipulate to make a good cut out by hand. BEWARE!
The first thing is to know what shape the oval has: The oval is made up of a central body, where the drawing is, a space for the title and a label of the Nintendo logo. This irregular oval has a fringe of white border of 0.5 cm approx. that runs through the entire periphery. Why do I know this? Because I have taken photos of authentic furniture and I have observed that border, but there are users and artists who have prepared the art with a white border for the title and the central body, and have concluded with a black border for the Nintendo logo; and I have seen varieties where the white border is only present in the title and the rest is cut along the edge of the drawing.
What I am going to do, however you want that border, you have to prepare it for printing and cutting, either by machine or by hand:
- If you want to do it by hand, you just need to create a very fine line that will serve as a guide with the scissors. This means that to the file you already have, you should add a new vector with a thick line effect (1/4 is enough) in a black or gray color, as you want.
- Personally, I think it is a complicated shape, with too much curve to be cut by hand, so I chose to do it by machine and for this I have to trace a vector die along the drawing that I have to deliver in vector format and no line thickness effect (it should not appear in the print), but only the die, BEWARE! not the drawing as well.
Take the drawing, merge it into a bitmap layer or pixel map at 300 dpi and place it in a vector file (Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw, Encapsulated PostScript, Freehand, etc.), which will have a layer with the bitmap drawing and one layer with the cutting die. You should have something like this:

The die vector is an invisible line that only the cutting machine knows is there.
How do you do this? Well, first they will print it for you, like a normal vinyl (I recommend that you laminate it in matt or gloss), but with some marks that they will make for you and that depend on the manufacturer of the cutting machine (I personally make the marks for them because I want them to tamper with my files as little as possible) and then they will take it and put it into the cutting machine, which will read the marks and then die cut with a very, very fine blade.
An important note with this or any other more complex file: Sometimes it is necessary to create fill so that it is not noticeable if the machine cut has deviated 1/2 millimeter. We must do it ourselves. They are not going to do it to us in the store. if there is interest I will develop the explanation later, although we will see something in this regard with the bezel in the next post answer to this thread.
