[ukvac] OT: ebay advice assistance required please.
Hi all,
sorry but this is Off Topic.

I have an auction on ebay right now, for an oric1,and a guy has put a high bid on it but then emails me and tells me :

I'M REALLY SORRY BUT COULD YOU CANCEL MY BID FOR YOUR ORIC AS NOW I'VE FOUND OUT THAT MY MUM&DAD HAVE ALLREADY BOUGHT ME ONE AS A SUPRISE.NOW I'M PUT IN AN AWKWARD POSITION AND DON'T WANT TO GET A BAD FEEDBACK SO COULD YOU CANCEL PLEASE AS I CANNOT BUY IT.

I don't want to be a prick, but I suggested he withdraw his own bid, at least come back to me and we'll sort something... heard nothing in 24 hours and there's only 24 hours or so left.

Here's the deal:
If I cancel his bid giving his excuse as the reason, will it look bad on my feedback rating or is it even recorded? I don't want to put the guy in a fix, but I don't want to be f.over.

I am a bit pissed that he hasn't even bothered to come back to me which makes me feel like not cancelling, Grrrrr...
Anyone had any experiences like this?
Any advice appreciated.
Aidan.

Kept this on the list as bits of it apply to all ebay'ers

You can cancel bids with complete impunity, it doesn't affect your feedback
rating although it is recorded against the auction. Give a reasonable reason
and _stress_ that it was at the bidders request.

Whether you _should_ do this, is up to you. At no point during the bid
process are you left in any doubt about whether you are obliged to
complete the sale if you win. It really comes down to whether you
think the guy is taking you for a ride or not - check out his previous
feedback for clues

If you don't cancel the bid and he refuses to pay (assuming
he wins) then you're in an even worse scenario as you'll have to go
to ebay for non-paying bidders and that's a whole world of hurt you
don't want to get into (and you're likely to end up with bad feedback
from the guy as a result - "I asked him to cancel etcetc")

Cheers
Chris
(Of course, if someone else has already outbid him then you could just
keep quiet about it, but I didn't say that...)

Thanks for the replies.
I cancelled his bid. There was no reserve. I emailed him to say thanks for
not replying and not to bid on my future auctions... he finally emailed me
back and said his server was down... yea. He's new to ebay.
what's the point in getting pissed?
Cheers
Aidan.

>> What's the pont of getting pissed?

Sounds like you were :) Tsk tsk tsk, you've not been to marketing school,
have you?

The customer is King, and is always right, even when he's wrong.

IMHO in that sort of situation, you have to bite your lip and reply with
"Thank-you for your email, I shall remove you from the auction as requested. I
hope you enjoy your new Oric".

At least he did contact you before the end of the auction. I had one guy bid
on a mobile phone I was selling. He tried to make me close early, to which I
said no. The auction ended, with him as the highest bidder. He didn't contact
me again, and left me bad feedback cos I wouldn't close!!! W*A*N*K*E*R

Dealing with newbies and dickheads is part of life I'm afraid, and sending
miserable email to this guy won't help. He probably saw your item as the first
thing he wanted and thought YES! BID!! and then saw one with some other bits
at a ower price and thought SHIT, I WANT THAT ONE INSTEAD.

On the other hand, I would probably go around his house and throttle his
entire family for posting in all caps...

I'M REALLY SORRY BUT COULD YOU CANCEL MY BID FOR YOUR ORIC AS NOW I'VE FOUND
OUT THAT MY MUM&DAD HAVE ALLREADY BOUGHT ME ONE AS A SUPRISE.NOW I'M PUT IN AN
AWKWARD POSITION AND DON'T WANT TO GET A BAD FEEDBACK SO COULD YOU CANCEL
PLEASE AS I CANNOT BUY IT.
