[ukvac] OT: Good Web Hosting Company Sought

I'm looking for a solid reliable hosting company for a few sites.

Our web designer has said we need:

Access to MySQL
PHP v.4+
Minimum 2GB Bandwidth

This is complete gibberish to me, but if anyone can help point me to
somewhere decent for this, please do!

I would rather pay more for a large reliable company with a good
history, than an a smaller indie that's just sprung forth.

Thanks

TJ

Hi there!

I use PowWeb. http://www.powweb.com

They provide everything I need in terms of PHP v4.something and the latest
MySQL. They said there's a limit on the number of databases, but I've set up
5 of them so far and haven't been stopped...

The bandwidth allowance is 5Gb per day or 500,000 hits per day. They've been
very reliable and really helpful in the year that I've been with them.
Certainly worth a look.

Kindest regards,
Brian

I use Bluehost (http://www.bluehost.com) and they've been excellent.
Customer service usually returns emails within minutes, and it has a
remarkable app builder system called Fantastico that allows you to
install things like galleries, forums, chat areas and e-commerce with
very little effort.

Bandwidth is 75Gb per month with the standard package, not sure how
this fits with your requirements.

DON'T use Easyspace. They've been bought by IOMart and the portal has been
replaced by some godawful complicated mess.

When you buy new products, they often don't work.

They aren't replying to support emails, have no phone number and have put
the cost of moving your domain name away up to 40 quid IIRC.

Lots of angry people on the forums.

Re: [ukvac] OT: Good Web Hosting Company Sought

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions :)

You're not wrong about Easyspace - I jettisoned just as they were
implementing their new 'easy to use' control panel. They forgot one
important element though, the 'easy to use' part!!

I emailed them to ask a few questions and simply didn't get a reply - so I
switched all my domains over to 123-reg.co.uk. last year. They're great for
basic sites, but their sister company (for more complicated systems) is
'webfusion' - who the web guy tells me 'suck' on a services per pound
rating.

Thanks again
