[ukvac] OT: PC TV Tuner Cards

Does anyone have one of these? I'd just like to know if they're any
good and if someone has one that they're really pleased with, if you
could throw me a model number it'd be appreciated.

Thx

TJ

Hi Tony,

There are some good reviews and opinions here: http://www.tv-cards.com

I've got a cheapy generic one that's perfectly adequate, but Hauppage
ones appear to have good reviews.

Cheers

Don't buy the Pinnacle jobbie that is badged as Hewlet Packard on PC World
shelves. Yes, it's only £29, but yes, it's pretty crap! I bought one and
never really used it.

It'll receive TV pictures, but that's about yer lot. No sensible video
capture or anything like that.

Hauppage are basically the defacto standards makers just like Creative were
(maybe still are?) in the sound card world.

Beyond that I don't really know much about them. It was always one of those
things that I'd managed to convince myself that I wanted but when I got one
it was a bit of a case of what the hell am I gonna do with this thing and
why did I bother!! :)

Was quite handy when I was doing a load of Xbox hacking though as it meant I
wasn't hogging the living room TV all the time. Then I remember we have
picture in picture so I didn't need to hog it anyway - DOH!

Martin.

had a Hauppage in my PC, pants, picture quality is very grainy - this
was a few years ago so it may be the pc didn't have enough balls.

Dont bother with the USB ones either again Hauppage, tried one on my
laptop, complete waste of time.

buy a cheap TV instead

Similar problems here too... Hauppage are notoriously bad for drivers
(at least they were last time I tried to use their hardware) - opting
for proprietary codecs instead of common ones, etc.
