OT: RE: [ukvac] Virus Warning
Obviously haven't actually run it!, but its meant to do the usual
propogation through personal address books and stuff like that, plus it
tracks down a long list of processes and if they're running on your machine
attempts to shut them down.

Targets include things like personal firewalls, zonealarm, virus checkers,
stuff like that. There's a link further up this thread somewhere with more
in depth details. Don't think it got any more nasty than that.

Almost like it was trying to pave the way for something more harmful, but it
just isn't that clever. I remember the days.... Oh hang on, drifting off.

Seriously though, I know why they call these things a virus, but it ain't
really what I'd term a virus. It's not as though it's trying to hide itself
or disguise itself like they used to. The only way it does this is in the
trickery involved in getting you to run it.

To package a virus as a .EXE file is dumb move number one as later versions
of Outlook will block it straight away (and lets face it the target platform
IS Microsoft). The rest of what it does is just bog standard Windows
programming through the use of APIs. Nothing clever at all. I could have
done it easily (but didn't!). Almost like it's on the school curriculum for
kiddies, the way these things keep coming through these days!

Oh well, it's slowing down now anyway...

Martin.
