Hi - just out of curiousity is the PC emulated version as good as the Xbox version or is it just running in a higher screen resolution?

I've not played it yet as still locked to Patreons atm, but it's the arcade versions, you don't really get any more perfect!

Hi All,

As I don't have the space for an OR2 arcade cabinet I have opted for this game on the original Xbox and played this again yesterday and took a few pictures. The modded Xbox (via Beaps on this forum) gives an HD output (via an NTSC option) and using a component cable (I managed to get an original Xbox component cable from the US which is great quality). This gives me a near arcade perfect experience on a Samsung 32" HD Smart TV. The game runs at a solid 60 fps of course too.

Let me know what you think please and what other set up options do people play this game?

I get my full OR2 fix of course at Arcade Club every month or so...

I've played OR2 a lot this way too, through component in progressive mode, using an older Panasonic LCD and a Plasma - which seems to have less processing and therefore no real noticable lag.

I think it's bloody brilliant, easy to get going, and most definitely very very acceptable.

I thought it was only the PC conversion from Sumo (and probably the later PS3 / 360 ports) that ran at 60fps. The Xbox version was limited to 30fps I think.

Regardless your setup looks great. Any plans to get a racing wheel?

Edit to my original post I am not getting an HD output but just a higher resolution than standard via the NTSC option and component setup.

Any more views please ?

Cheers

The PS2 version is one of few games on that machine that runs in 480p too. Drops the odd frame here and there, but it's pretty impressive.

While it's a cracking conversion, the Xbox original OR2 2006 version) isn't quite arcade perfect in that the texture quality isn't as good on the backgrounds etc; I believe it's something to do with the Xbox memory not being as much as Chihiro. There's a definite difference (I have, sadly, had both set up before side-by-side as I'm slightly obsessed by OutRun games - I've got an OR2 SP cab and the original Xbox game running on an Xbox One.

That said, I had heard that on console 2006 wasn't graphically as good as the original, I found this video which compares the 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrkBy7PGTOw and I dunno if it's just my old eyes but maybe there is a minor difference?

Hi Jonathan - yes I am too really into this game. I have noticed that the original Xbox OutRun 2 game released in 2004 seems better graphically than the Coast to Coast game that was released on the Xbox in 2006. But again both are indeed great games !

I've got it on xbox, pc and psp. I've yet to buy the Japanese PS2 version but it's on the shopping list.

I've recently aquired a Bang and Olufsen CRT TV and am loving PC engine, Gamecube and Dreamcast on it. Need to dig out OG Xbox and have a blast!

I converted a Sega F355 shell into an Outrun 2 and used a PC running a hacked version of Outrun 2 Coast
to Coast with a mod written by Howard Casto, more information can be found on Arcade Control Forums, Outrun 2 FXT

I loved that cab and would just play it for hours, great sound track too

Here's a link to my old cab

It's been sold since but fully restored back to hardware as it deserves ( ;

Great stuff.

It is the best driving game IMO.

I will stick with my original Xbox version. I've recently got the Japanese version which has slightly tweaked and improved graphics.

Hi All,

I noticed the arcade Chihiro board runs at resolution 640 x 480 and the original Xbox version I have runs at a slightly higher resolution of 720 x 480 via component cables providing a slightly better picture.

What's you view on higher resolutions than 720 x 480 as they aren't really true to the look of the original Outrun 2 game ?

Cheers

Mark
