So we at last got my Outrun up and playing at the weekend, however the screen is very much of a green tint (does not show up so bad on the highscore screen). Is this a common thing? where would you be checking looking first?

We did fiddle with the pots, but to no avail.

Is green too high or are you just missing blue, completely? Were the pots you fiddled with the RGB cutoff/gain adjusters on the neckboard? That would be the first thing I'd look at.

Disconnect the video signal from the monitor board.

If the picture tube is still green instead of black, it's a problem in the green color drive.

It could be the drive transistor. If you desolder that transistor and it fixes the issue, the problem is likely that transistor.

It can also be a short in the picture tube between the filament and one of the other electrodes. This can be solved by feeding the filament from an isolated 6V3 supply.
