[ukvac] Outrun sound problems
Hi,

has anyone got details with regards to a Sega Outrun board? I'm having
sound problems and would like to fix them. I'm missing some samples and no
FM sound.

Thanks for the help in advance.
Ta,

the digital SFX and music come through a seperate sound board. So if you have basic sound then I'd check this board. All other sounds seem to come staright from the board.

On mine there was a power problem on the sound board, cleaning it up fixed it.
The sound board was made by ATARI so its quite easy to spot !

Hope this helps

Yeah you said that before but when I look at it I just see two big boards.
From the manual I understand that the lower board is the CPU board and the
top one the game board.

I hope I will learn more tommorow when I get the full manual for this cab.

Unfortunately, the OutRun manual isn't all that informative - there is
a wiring diagram, but most of it is "do not keep the machine in a damp
place" sort of advice! ;)

Hmmm I was afraid of that. Andrew gave me a copy of his deluxe upright
manual and it has loads of info on all that mech stuff but virtual none on
the boards.

Right now I'm making a webpage where I will keep track of all the stuff I
do to the cabinet to restore it. May it be of use to others cause it seems
to be a major pain in the but to get details on this cab!

The page should go online later today: http://www.macotaku.freeserve.co.uk/

[ukvac] Re: Outrun sound problems
Sounds like you sound amp board is missing then, quite common as loads of sega / atari cabs use the same board. As luck would have it I am getting a mini outrun cab in the next week or so, as well as a spare board so hopefully I should have a spare audio board. I am assuming that the mini cab uses the same board as the full upright.

Have a good look for the audio board, you cant miss it, it has some massive capicitors on, and its mains powered. trace all the connections from your psu, if you still cant find it then trace the wires back from the speakers. But alas it does sound like the board is missing. The board itself is not too complicated so should be easy to copy.
