I've got a couple of rather cool bootleg galaxian boards with Pacman and
Frog (frogger) on them. They're lovely little abuses of the galaxian pcb
- only thing about them that worries me is the colours.

The pacman one is the worst - orange pacman green ghosts and cherries
YUK! colour prom is obviously totally wrong. I had a look at the version
in mame. the colours in that are better but they still don't look
correct (one of the ghosts has no eyes for starters) Has anyone got this
board (bootleg pacman running on galaxian hardware) with a proper colour
prom? if so any chance you could email me an image of it?

I've also got a frogger bootleg - same story (blue froggies?) I'm not so
bothered about it but has anyone got a good colour prom for that too?

The Frog PROM should be the same as the original Frogger PROM.

I remember the no-eyed ghost from the Gal. Puckman board I had. I didn't
provide the PROM for MAME myself but maybe the buyer did?

Or, maybe it's just a Moon Cresta or Galaxians PROM in there instead?

The MAME source has note a stating that Puckman uses the same PROM as
Pisces, and that the Pisces PROM is "very close to Galaxian"

Conclusion is the PROM probably hasn't been dumped for Puckman.

It would be interesting if a proper prom did exist for these, I think most
where done quick and dirtly by operators to cash in the pacman boom
at the time. Its a cool hack to get the game to run in the reduced screen
res of galaxian, added to that the high pitch sound effects. Any one seen
one of these hacks (or the Frog hack) where they did not disable the
starfield generator, well weird!

I did notice that although the pacman prom and the galaxian prom are
different in mame, if you run bootleg pac with the original galaxian
colour rom image it looks identical to the pacman one. I wonder if some
of the bootleg pacman boards just have galaxian proms in them.

I have a Galaxian board that had that awful Pac Man hack on it. I converted
it back to Galaxian by doing a ROM swap and cutting off the extra wiring for
the Pac hack. The colour PROM must have been the same as Galaxian as I
didn't change it.

While we're on the subject, I've now put Galaxian Part X ROMs in the board,
the version that has that lovely wavy "Galaxian Part X" title screen. But
half this title screen is missing. Does anyone know if the board has to be
modified for the Part X ROMs to work properly? If so, how?

Yeh, well if anyone has a prom send me the image and with luck a good
one will turn up. I had a go at making one up myself last night. I think
my effort is an improvement on the one in mame at least. Judge for
yourself.
