Hi. I've just been downloading some PDFs to my iPad to read in Books app. Three open just fine on it, but the fourth is weird. When I first opened it, I got the title page and the bottom progress bar to indicate it's thumbnailing and it got to about page 3 then Books bombed out. Rebooted and restarted Books and it bombs out as soon as I open that one PDF. Everything else is fine.

So, has anybody seen or got anything which will run an integrity check on a PDF? Never even thought of it before, but it's basically PostScript and that was a bugger for getting messed up via emails and spewing miles of crap out of big dye sublimation printers (that I know nothing about and had nothing to do with, guv).

Or it could just be a bug in the app, but I'd like to rule out the PDF first (Maybe open for editing in Acrobat Pro and then Save out?). If anybody has Acrobat Pro installed and could give me an idea if this is possible, I'd appreciate it. My Dad has it installed so I could talk him through it but it'd be nice to know if there is even the option before I try :)

Any help or suggestions appreciated.

cheers
tim

Or I could run it through a converter, which will serve the purpose of parsing it, regardless of whether you actually want it converting or not (pretty sure I have a converter to go from PDF->???, it's more normal to want to go the other way).

Depending on the version of PDF and just how much will to live I had at the time, I could also sit down with the spec. and an editor / hex editor and try to work out what's up with it. But it's been a couple years since I've gone through PDF in that depth
