More from Saturday.

The inevitable broken Star Wars

The gear in my yoke snapped, but ColinD was an absolute star and brought a spare which Luke quickly fitted first thing
smiley20.gif

It was just about playable for a few hours before going out of
alignment due to a bad 5k pot. I had many guys come over wanting to know
EXACTLY what was wrong with it!

The Arcade Otaku area.

The
3 cabs on the left here had some of my all time favorites - Rainbow
Islands, Final Fight & Rod-Land. I went for a quick credit on
Rainbow Islands and it didn't end well

The Oculus VR queue was an hour long all day and I sadly didn't get to try it out.

These
next 2 pics of the consoles area give a pretty good idea of how big the
show really is. These areas are next to the pinballs which then leads
to the arcade. To walk from one end to the other took ages!

There were loads more trade stalls than last year which was great.

Really sorry - I seemed to spend my time on tech support this time and the camera didn't get a look in :(

Still - kept a few things alive :) Ravage2013-10-14 21:45:50

Sunday pics.

First task of the day was getting Star Wars working -
and it just about did for the day, not what you'd call accurate as the
crosshair was very jerky, but I don't think people who hadn't played it
since the 80's really noticed.

Play2013_60.jpg

The lights were off for Sunday so the whole arcade looked much better.

Did the F355 manage to get fully working?
smiley1.gif

Sadly not chief, it left BristolMartin fully working & by the time it arrived at the show it wasn't working at all, as Alpha1 said that is a lot off journey time for things to go wrong, from Bristol to Rotherham, left there for a few weeks & then over to Manchester, we all know just how temprimental cabs can be, thankfully Luke Wells got 2 screens working, disconnected the left one, there is a probem with the screens constantly degauzing & one of the naomi boards needs replacing, not the end of the world, I would have been really worried if it was completely dead
smiley1.gif

Well, at least I've now seen it & it's put my mind at rest, I will have trouble squeezing it into where I want it to go

Yeah sorry about that... I think that was my fault...

The Ice Cold Beer lasted until about 5pm on Saturday when the Solenoid burnt out and also blew a fuse. I replaced both early Sunday morning and still nothing... Rav gave me some great help and we ripped out the PCB and had a tech session on the J+ table and after some time identified that a transistor was faulty, which he very kindly then replaced for me (after a lot of time battling some very old solder). It then powered up and ran through its Self Test but after a few times failed and displayed the Out of Order error, so was out of action all day Sunday. So thanks Rav for your help mate, and hopefully it will be up and running again very soon. I was especially pleased to see Rav and Aran having a laugh and joke...

It was good to finally meet Rav and Olly, it was great having a chat and a few drinks with you both. It was also very good to see all forums getting on and acting as one community to put on a great display for the general public, which is what it is all about.

Looking forward to the next event...

Alex,
I saw some pictures of the Nintendo lineup. The DK barrels etc was a
nice touch. Whose idea was that, and how did you get those props?

Rog (rcantor77) asked Nintendo and they lent them - must admit they looked really good!

Rog wanted to bring them home
Well he did
I said I don't bloody want them my mrs will go mad
I think rog has plans for cocktail bar with his ice cold beer lol

Well I am not sure the wife was happy that I returned home with one more cab than I went with but the icing on the cake was when I removed an 8" Palm tree form the lorry. I have told her that it is perfect for her when she goes onto the patio with a sun lounger and a Pino Colada in her hand.

I don't think she bought it but it is now in the Games Room...

Well it was a great weekend. Shame some people have to ruin it.....

https://www.facebook.com/RetroGamerUK/posts/542914415778208

Now, a lot of us know how much work goes into event set up and maintenance throughout the weekend. Whether its Play, Revival, Nerg, etc what would you think if you read comments like that. Yes it has annoyed me and yes I have been posting my views
smiley9.gif
I think its very wrong for a publication to post one mans views. One man who has probably never owned an arcade machine let alone try to keep one running.

Anyway Play Expo was ace
smiley20.gif
onto the next event
smiley20.gif
where we all going? (If I can make it!)

Oh dear, not very well thought, shame for everyone that helped out over the weekend for free (& days leading up) to have to read something a bit negative when I would have expected Retro Gamer to pick out the positives, at the end of the day over 100 working cabs were on show so I reckon that is a great arcade for the public to use.

I know loads of people well away from arcade collecting who visited & loved what was there to play, so what if a few monitors had problems, surely thats to be expected & as you couldn't work on them when the show was open, the machines were pretty much in the hands of the arcade gods, blimey, I'd say things could have been far worse.

It was a great show & thankfully the majority of people both involved with & not involved with actual arcade collecting did enjoy it & appreciate what people had done, free of charge

The candies were cool Pete, loved looking at them, they were sadly always busy so I never had chance to play on one, probably a good thing though as I'd only want to buy one
