...so i've been playing some naomi games recently as i've bought the netbooty pi loader setup (money well spent!

)

i finally decided to load up Zero Gunner 2 because i remember it being recommended to me a while back when i said i really liked Under Defeat on the dreamcast.

only had a few games so far. yeah, i can see where people are coming from. it's alright, the turning mechanic is quite fun though sometimes it doesn't do exactly what i expect it to do. the game is not as explosive as under defeat and there are a lot of mini cut scenes that i find a bit annoying. also, i think all the little E pickups a bit of cluttering and unnecessary.

but overall, it's not a bad game, it's above average. maybe it'll get better?

more random reviews from me as i play them.

Excellent buddy, Naomi's a much under rated beast

well, i've always thought about getting one but

1/ people said not all games work on 15khz (have yet to load one in that doesn't)
2/ games i wanted were either expensive or hard to find
3/ loading games from a pc or laptop was not my cuppa tea

i only bought a naomi 1 cos they are not that expensive to replace should they die on me, not like the chihiro 3.

so, game on!

now i can get rid of the dreamcast mgcd if i can find the right buyer.

the interface is a bit snide at the moment because it's just all the games in 1 folder and you're pushing these up/ down buttons to scroll through the list of games. but it's powered by the naomi (5v lead) so there's not loads of fiddling about with loads of plugs etc. also, i've had my egret2s for so many years, i never knew that the 2 pin socket that is marked "service" actually outputs 110v. so you just plug the sun psu into that and that saves on another stepdown transformer, super useful.

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll check it out for sure, sounds.... Intriguing!

Re:WWF wrestling.
Played it on the Dreamcast bitd. Man, it was such a let down after the masterful 4player version of smackdown2 on the ps1. I vote that as my fave wrestling game, ever. (Nb: I've not played any of the newer ones on current gen consoles)

you should, man. people get caught up collecting or fixing, they never get to truly enjoy the fruits of their labour.

if it was me, i would just put the game files into folders of A-D, E-H, etc... just to break down the number of files per folder, but no biggy.

dont be doing this on holiday though.... go seek out the local arcades.

just had a quick game of this.

oh my god, how rubbish is this game? is this even a proper commercial game or was it done by some students at a university in a few weeks? the art is terrible, it's like really poor fan art... and does it really use 3 buttons? not saying the more buttons the better, but it was really lacking moves, or i just couldn't guess what they were. the cpu ai certainly doesn't know what to do and eventually end up doing the same cheap moves over and over.

don't suggest rubbish games, please. just good ones.

Try psyvarior 2 the something, and chain those mothers, lol. All the best with your quest. You should find that attacking the bosses on zg2 from behind will make it easier to complete. Border down is another nice shooter :)

that's the design problem of zero gunner 2, because the game encourages you to be all over the place on the screen, it doesn't actually know where you are as it initiates baddies onto the screen. and am i right in thinking you can collide with the baddies and not die? only the bullets can kill you? cos i was turtling in one corner and some planes came on the screen in that corner and i didn't get killed. i mean, in other shoot 'em ups, the idea of spawning baddies where you are would be harsh, but because of the fundamental design of this game, unless they want to detect where you are on the screen before they spawn baddies, you're gonna find yourself in situations like that...... blah blah blah.....

it's an alright game. first impressions not as great as under defeat.

i will have a few more goes for sure. and i'll try the others you've suggested.

Ha! Seriously? I was right that this game's not a real commercial game??

If I wanted to play a game with some titties in it I'd be loading in DoA2, surely? That blitz game is just woeful.

It's all about the buzz, wiggle the joystick left and right and you will spin, graze bullets to raise your level, each time you level up you have a short period of invulnerability allowing you to plough into bullets to level up again quickly so in theory you can stay invincible, not easy but later levels have many more bullets/enemies to achieve it, depending on how you do in early levels you go easy, normal or hard on the next so the better you get the more scoring achievement you have chance to get.
Not shooting the bosses creates a bullet hell to graze, learn the patterns and you can have massive buzz counts and level up quickly.
My fave Naomi game by far, music is awesome and the games presentation/graphics are faultless.
