Offense is taken not given.
For example what you have posted and I have quoted actually offends me and riles me up.

Ol is right here this is exactly how offense works, it's the person who is offended who gets to decide if they are offended not the offendee (if that's a word)

Offender is the word your looking for there.

You want a free for all, where it is indeed open and minimally moderated - but obusive and offensive behaviour is fine - then go join Neo Geo forums.

As a member from, and on behalf of the NeoGeo forums I must say that I feel offended by this off topic statement, the Neo forums are very strictly moderated and even the slightest mishap in the market forums will get you a ban or at least a lock in the war room !

Yeah but you guys shred noobs into tiny pieces.

It's very rare the mods come down on anything here. I think it's a matter of respect to take on board what they are saying in the rare instances they feel the need to.
As Oll says it's a collector forum ran by enthusiasts for enthusiasts, this is not a service you are paying for, try and enjoy it.

The problem is you cannot control bad language on a forum other than working with that person and trying to get it sorted out. Remembering that different people have differing views and the reality is that no-one is always right. You also can't use common decency as most people don't have any (aka the daily mail syndrome).

Maybe the point could be put in a better way. I did some work with mentally ill people and one guy was always playing with his knob inside his trousers. People were offended by this but who exactly is in the wrong there? Are you saying he should have been banned from anywhere public?

This is the reason why rules don't work as there is many exceptions, lots of which include the law. Leaving mods open to looking like a right twats.

TBH I only get 'offended' by three things on forums. 1) greedy frockers 2) Cronyism 3) illegal things. If I find any, I'm happy to call the person/persons right cocnuts.

Finally, people need to remember that morality is transitory.

I'm not sure how you can compare someone with a learning disability who doesn't intend to offend, to that of someone who does offend because they're unable to keep their mouth shut.

I find that most people do possess common decency.

So how can you tell the difference on an internet forum other than with assumption and stereotyping?

Through interacting with the community, building relationships and maintaining a pleasant manner with all communication. This is what we as a forum expect and all members should adhere to. This whole thread is to underline that.

You cannot have anything without some form of negativity. I think that is my core point, imperfection is the seed of all good. Perfection is failure.

Your point is irrelevant to the context of my statement. Do you agree with it or not?

I disagree, as you will not have relationships with the majority and 'the internet' is not a place where people are themselves.

Also, who knows what a plesant manner is? You could ask everyone on here and you'd get a 100s of different answers. Remembering, that it is also based on context of situation.

The forum does not expect anything, it is a database. What the 'community' expects is a common interest between people but within that there will be everyone from total c**nts to nice people. With the irony being that the nicest of all will actually be the biggest c**nts!

I am afraid that really is just a rather naive opinion as you will know that many here meet in person (A meet at Steves being the most recent that springs to mind, along with large swathes of members attending Arcade Club regularly). I really think you are hunting for an argument that doesn't exist.

Anyway it's getting late and the irony is not lost on me that you are thread dumping on a thread about thread dumping. So; I am going to bed and I suggest you use this time for some inward reflection on the events that have transpired and decide how you want to respond to Alpha1's question. Just let one of us know and we can go from there.

And may I add that, if you disagree with my statement that interacting with the community, building relationships and maintaining a pleasant manner is the right thing to do, I find that an appalling attitude.

To get back onto topic.

Who gives a sh*t, people are being offended and worked up over something that simply doesn't matter. There are no sticks or stones on ANY forum.

But if they are, they need to solve their own issues of selfishness first, before moving onto others.

to fill a bong with smoke to the point where it looks like "milk"

It's all to do with context.

I genuinely don't know where you are going with this now.

My point is this:

People need to chill out more and stop being offended. It is not the responsibility to everyone to walk around with kid gloves on. It is for both parties to work together and fix, not for one to point the finger and be 100% right. There is no black or white, just grey.

We should always work towards grey and allow ourselves to be wrong.

People who don't like 'thread dumping' should learn to accept it, just as those what do it, should try not to. No-one is being harmed other than those getting het up over something that simply doesn't matter.
