There are generally some pretty good deals about on the Vita at the moment as there is meant to be a new version out before too long - though in typical Sony style it won't be as good as the original one.

Spotted this deal at Argos:

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/9387762.htm#pdpPromotions

If you scroll down you'll find:

  • Wifi + 3G Vita
  • 8GB Memory card
  • Virtua Tennis 4
  • Killzone Mercenary
All for the princely sum of £139 which believe me is an awesome deal.

Offer only valid until Tuesday however.

Yeah, it's a good little console. I've had one for some time now (bought at full price), BUT, the console and memory card ends up linked to your PSN account so when I got it after a bit of playing I reset it and gave it to the Mrs as she plays the handhelds much more than me. To say I wasn't impressed is putting it mildly.

Consequently when a mate of mine spotted this offer I snagged another so I can play it again.

There haven't been a massive amount of games about but what there is is mostly very good - gravoty rush was a launch title and that's excellent and the FPS in this bundle is highly rated too (I've not played it much yet). There's also some very nice smaller download games too.

But here's the thing, (my mate is a painter & decorator and listens to podcasts all day long), Sony are allegedly really going to go for it with PSV / PS4 integration and since we've decided that of the next gen's, that will be the one we get (eventually, but not yet) it made sense for me to invest in this platform. And playing my PSP on the plane last week reminded me how good Sony portables are

So yeah, a couple of down points to be aware of but otherwise a sound system - I forgot to mention the memory cards are stupidly expensive too.

Be aware though that it's all excluded from the Argos 30 day exchange thing. Most stuff is these days mind.

At play expo we played the new jeff minter Vita game and my mate who's a big retro console fan said the vita was what he played on the most.
I haven't ordered a ps4 but if I went next gen it would be that one.

Sounds like it might be worth picking it up tomorrow and then selling it if I'm not a fan.

LOL - well, I would (ok, I did!) but I really don't want to be responsible if you don't like it

From what I can gather the new one when it eventually comes out (Jap at the moment) will have normal screen rather than the current OLED, so slightly better battery life but worse screen and 1GB of internal memory (which isn't enough for sod all) and will of course be full price so probably more expensive, but I've no idea what that price will be.

Hmm, Minter game. Will have to look into that!
