Robotron ... when you get it past a million on maximum difficulty it is such an evil sod, but beautiful too.

I love Defender and Sinistar too ... but it has to be Robotron!

for me Joust, me and my bro played it (mainly on the atari st) and i loved the 'lets cooperate... HEY YOU KILLED ME' aspect. always been a fan on inertia-related 'physics' in games too.

close second defender, again played mainly as a home port, in this case 'planetoid' for the BBC micro.

Haha, me and my brother were the same. I never really played the arcade version BITD, but the Atari 800 and ST versions we played a lot. Loved that 2 player just waiting for one of you to turn on the other thing :) IIRC the ST version was a pretty damn perfect conversion as well.

Can we include pinball?

After my somewhat rude "NO!" to pinball, I've now gone and bought my first Pin (Black Knight). So with my change in status I'd be keen to hear which of the WMS pins are the real gems too :) Anyone got any pinball knowledge?

Tough call between Robotron and Defender.

Robotron has pretty normal joysticks, you just need two per player. I play it on a two player JAMMA cab, works quite well.

Pinball has to be Pinbot for me, it is the only one I own and the only one I got addicted to in the wild. Does anyone have a spare rectangular blue target face ?, I broke one of pinbots teeth last time I played it.

I just scanned through the Williams list in the MAME Menu, they really didn't make many games.

So my fave is Moon patrol.

Probably ever since I tilted a cocktail version of the game, due to frustration, causing it to give me 73 credits after that.

After 73 games I was good (well OK) at it LOL, got to the end of the 2nd level - bearing in mind each game only lasted minutes LOL

Might have walked away with credits left, and was over the game till Mame came along

High Speed II: The Getaway

Not really, it's Defender, there can be no question.

But Getaway is pretty good also, especially as I played it against Steve Ritchie (the games designer) round my mate's house a few years ago and beat him at it.

In case you don't know, Steve Ritchie's pinballs are most smooth, slick and fast of all pinballs, just like the best of the Williams video games.

I was playing the recent (Steve Ritchie) Spider Man a few days ago, there's so much going on and it's so fast, it's like being attacked by a group of 10 year-olds. Just like Defender.

If you want to know more about Williams and all their games, come and meet Steve next year at the 2012 Slam!

Seeing as this old thread has been revived, going to post my tuppence worth. Ask me a few years ago I would have said Defender, followed by Robotron. However Robotron has grown on me over the years and for a while it was my fave of the crop.

That however is gradually being taken over by Stargate, for no other reason than the fact the game is so brutally difficult compared to the other two mentioned.

After playing Stargate, Defender is just so much easier to play IMHO.

Edit - fingers crossed I will :)
