[ukvac] R-Type Delta
Just got this title on PlayStation (I know its not strictly an arcade
game, but its an arcade derivative), and it is totally ACE. If you
liked R-Type and Tempest 2000 (on Jaguar), you will love this..
Superb!!! Its nice to see the games industry finally bringing out
something thats just fun to pick up and blast!!!!!!!!!

hi all..

well.. R-Type Delta is kind of ok, but i still don't like the way that i keep dying as frequently as i breathe. As you all know, die in R-Type, and you're returned to the beginning of the level.. That was the reason i got rid of my R-Type arcade board in the first place :)

Some more decent shoot 'em ups to look out for on the PSX :

DODONPACHI (pronounced : Doh-Don-Patchy)

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

ok, its got a silly name, but this is a straight conversion from the arcade, AFAIK this game runs on the SONY system 11 board anyhow so it's identical in the arcade as on the PSX. If you like insanely fast shoot 'em ups with absolutely billions of shots and ridiculously over powered weapon power-ups that would need a nuclear reactor four times the size of the ship to actually produce, then this is the game for you! It's 2D only, but so fast you'll be dizzy for a while. Japanese release only

EinHander (pronounced : Eye-N-Hand-er)

^^^^^^^^

another strange name, but IMO this is the best shooter on the PSX. Japanese and American releases only. it's in 3D, has very surreal and inventive bosses, with the usual assortment of weapons, and a changing side scrolling view, sometimes just behind, sometimes side-on. everything's 3D and well animated, indeed, weapons power ups are gained by shooting down enemies then snatching their weapons that fall rapidly off the screen :) Pumping soundtrack to boot.

sorry to be off topic, but hey, we all love a good shooter every now and then...

if anyone's interested in these games give us a shout.

yeah, i forgot to mention the saturn.. Probably has the largest selection of arcade perfect shooters..

The darius series is kinda cool, I didn't realise that the arcade version had 3 screens! It kinda makes it hard to make a home version, but wen you play it, it is still playable :)

On the subject of the consoles, and classic's etc... One cool game that
I manaeged to get was Sega Ages for the saturn. Has outrun, afterburner
and space harrier on one cd!

Its cool, and looks pritty close (if not blob on!) to the arcade
machines.

Another cool thing is the music is ripped stright from the orginals onto
CD so you can also listen to them on yr stereo! Yay!

Radiant Silvergun is excellent. And for more shoot-em-up ideas, check out
Strikers 1945 II also on the Saturn (the PSX version suffers from slow down
if I remember correctly... much like the arcade version although that chucks
out a ridiculous number of bullets).

While were on about console versions, has anyone seen the original arcade
version of Commando 2 (on Capcom Generations 4 for the PSX) I'd never even
heard of it ;/
