Cheers Rav,

Had a fantastic day - what an amazing collection!

Thanks again for getting the Robotron up and running - made my day to play on one of them again.

Great weekend, have not laughed so much in ages :)

Massive thanks to Rav and Sam for the hospitality, and to Ade and Andy C for actually almost killing me through laughter with their antics. Backflipper, you may be an illegal immigrant but you get my vote dude, but was it relay necessary to prove your point by causing an explosion and shorting out Retrokade just because you were loosing yet another argument? You may get away with that sort of behavior in South Africa but in Funtington it is just not cricket!

Great to see everyone and already looking forward to the next!

and regreted not asking Alpha1 nicely if I could have turned on his Hard Drivin'.

Ask??? The trick is to just turn it on when no-one's looking and help yourself. If it goes bang just switch it off again, start whistling and sheepishly walk away

It was on and working - P-man and AndyC were playing it. You should have said.

It was on/off sporadically as its power was being shared with the stun runner backflipper was working on i think...

I got it going after disabling the brake pedal in the test menu, good old Atari with their 'disable broken controls' adjustments.. excellent...

Love that damn game... but love Race Drivin' more! :)

IIRR you can romswap HD to RD, but there's lots of roms and jumpering to change... i could be wrong there. I have a pcb in my loft but i can't remember if its HD or RD... Tim bought my RD UR and scrapped it, he might still have the PCB... so might Ade...

Hey Rav and all,

Had a great day with people not seen for some time and a few new faces. Thanks for hosting Rav and look forward to the next one. Thanks also to Bruce and AndyC for cheering me up as I was not my usual 'happy'(?) self... ;-)

Most enjoyed game by all - Rebound
Most fun and new discovered - Zoo keeper
Oddball - Ice cold beer (odd ball-bearing game)

The few power cuts, caused by mostly Rebound and Steve (Backflipper) also caused some excitement and a chance for a rare group photo which I need to post! ;-)

Look forward to playing Root Beer Tapper maybe next time?

Cheers,
DaveO.

10 out of 10 thanks again.

Oh, and I forgot to pick those boards up from Oll, doh!

I'm also disappointed nobody got a photo of me making cheap arse deals with P-Man :)

I've got a Race Drivin' UR PCB set I can bring down to the next meet but it will only work in an UR :( I bought P-mans RD UR to swap the boards into my HD cockpit but after speaking with Jed Margolin who did a lot of the hardware for this I discovered one of the drive boards is different between the RD cockpit and the HD cockpit.

But if it's an UR then I've got boards to go in it. Big set though so would take a while to swap over.

I don't think it's rom-swappable as there is some info on Jed's site about how HD got bootlegged very easily even though Atari were using some super special MCU on HD so they swapped to a different method of protection on RD.

I'd forgotten what a good game Hard Drivin' actually is -far too tricky to control for the casual gamer and quite heavy on the steering.

I remember the first time I switched my cockpit on and I'd got the seat well back. The steering torque almost broke my arm :) Turns out that the greater the distance between seat and screen, the higher the torque as it's assumed an adult will sit further back and a child closer. Nice attention to detail, but overall the cab was a lovely design too.

Some real nice engineering had obviously gone into it.
