OK.. I know of at least one other Robotron carcass (just the wood mind, like
my mate's MAME cab). Lemme know where ya are and I'll be down with it for

I suspect many people have jumped on this thread without me fully explaining
the situation. I am indeed _fully_ aware of the prices of a Robotron or a
Gravitar (how come no-one has picked me up on that yet) and would not "tare
out all of the old innards" (Chris Hakes) Actually, I've just re-read my
post and no, I did explain it to some extent... "I've had at least three
that have had there control panels Street Fighter-ised" would tend to
suggest that the original boardset had gone too (and most likely the marquee
and usually the loom etc... and in the case of the Grvitar obviously the
monitor)
I'm sorry but a bare cab (just the wood) is a daunting project for any
UKVACer. I've only completed (almost) such a restoration once. I got a
Defender that had at some point had a Bubble Bobble in it (I'm only guessing
but it had a Bubble Bobble marquee and a 2 joystick 2 button control
panel)... so, no control panel, no loom, no monitor, no boardset, no
marquee... just wood. I've managed to source all the pieces now for my
Defender "kit" and all I've got left to do is wire up the loom.. .but it
took me a fair bit of time/money. If anyone wants to attempt it with the SI
Part II cab I've got then lemme know. (It's again got no control panel, no
marquee and the old sort-of horizontal monitor had been replaced with a
vertical giant monitor (so giant in fact that the bottom bit of wood that
holds the original marquee in place has had to have been moved up... quite a
project. I think it's gonna be just too tough too make/source the parts so
I'll probably end up sawing the sides off and sticking them in my office as
they're pretty colourful. Am I a bad person and will this cost me lots of
friends? Judging by the price a very nice condition one is going for on Ebay
just now then probably not)
Yes, everyone agrees that stripping a working dedicated game isn't a good
thing to do but how "dead" does a cab have to be before it becomes too far
gone and therefore MAME (or skip) fodder. I've got another Defender cab
that's been hacked about that badly that the only thing left is the
sideart... is this still a Defender cab? (Can I skip it with a free
conscience?)
