It's not bad, they were early like 1980 I think which looks more modern than it's time, I would of been over the moon to have had something like this when I was young, with or without the sub, the stereo sounds good for it's day, pretty much all ghetto blasters are let down by the speakers, unit is good quality sound and powerful for battery one, sub probably more impressive looks wise but does add some bass, not listened to it for a while, pretty cool though

Think it's 12/13" Super Woofer, I had some technics speakers with the same type

I've seen and heard some nice Ghettoblasters over the years but have no idea what their model names were, but I've never seen an add-on like that which runs on batteries. Is the sub a ported or sealed box?

My mate used to pick up all sorts of stuff crazy cheap in the 90's from car boot sales and the like, back in the days when it wasn't just market sellers selling cheap tat.

I remember buying an all in one Akai stereo from a catalogue thinking it was great, only to be put in my place by one of my mates battery powered Ghetto Blasters. That made my stereo sound like it had weak clock radio speakers, and when I heard his home Audio stuff I felt really embarrassed. :ROFLMAO:

In the day you thought a lot of the stereos were good but some of them aren't great when you listen to them now, let down by speakers often, even the home systems lower end Technics with SB-F44 speakers, they were rubbish but made to a price in 80's, I remember looking in Lasky's and cheapest Technics home system was Cass Receiver SA-K2 either £299.99 or £329.99 but Panasonic was the lower end Home Hi-Fi, The Technics SA-K5 and K6 Cass Receivers really sound good with decent speakers

I've got the even bigger Technics SA-C07 too which looks impressive but doesn't take batteries, does have DC power socket and think there was a car adaptor to power it so not a true portable, again speakers let these down, they used same speakers with some of the home K systems, I had a white system with same speakers just no hooks on side, got black one like this and silver without speakers

It's just the Portable that runs on Batteries as well as mains but you could use Sub also as it's loop through powered from main unit, its on wheels and the slots at the bottom are ports, the speakers on the main system are ported too, thin slots above the woofers

Sharp GF-777 are cool, not best quality sound high end but the subwoofers do kick some bass, big magnets on the UK E model, China Z model subs have smaller magnets, I should of kept all the boxed ones, sold a few like a fool but needed money for Arcade stuff and extensions lol, again I would of loved to have one when I was at school, lots of stuff on em, echo feat and adjustable control which is done with a spring inside  Mic Fader, Tape Fader, bass, treble, loudness, superwoofer vol control, was nice older ones had adjustable record levels too

Ah, I thought the sub was powered off batteries too!

What's the loudest one you have had bass wise?
Wish I knew the one my mate had, that was mad impressive, it literally shook all the crocs in his Mom's cabinets.

Did you ever have the Promax Super Jumbo from the movie Do The Right Thing?
I've no idea if they were even sold over here officially.

People walking around with small Bluetooth speaker pods playing mumble rap just isn't the same as witnessing people in the 80's lug OG Ghetto Blasters around pumping out Electro and Old School Hip-Hop.

I haven't had one of those Tecsonic/Promax ones as I don't bother with cheap Korean/Chinese ones, if it was £50 like maybe but says they fetch $1000 which is insane but people do funny things if something features in a movie or like those Discolite ones only sold for £100-200 until Madonnas twerking on one and idiots paying £600

Its tough question really, most of the earlier ones don't have big power output, GF-777 is only 6/7w rms a channel but it's x4 because the subs have own same amp too, all the ones with 8" speakers aren't powerful, think the JVC M90 is probably most powerful but I need to get mine working properly and compare to GF-777. I have the massive Conion which was Onkyo, featured in Breakin movie, 8" Matushita woofers, it's not bad sound with good bass on low but can't crank it up loads and has same amp as GF-777 so only 6/7w RMS channel

These HUGE philips ones are quite loud and quite a bit of bass but it's hard bass, I like softer bass, speakers have wood boxes, always remember them in Catalogues as it's 331/2" long, I don't like the philips ones as there all plastic and most sound naff but this one is decent, many have Graphic starting at 100hz which isn't great, the Technics is 60Hz

One of the best all round I'd say is the Telefunken, its great quality sound and and decent bass from the size speakers, takes batteries and says 2x 30W, my description would be a Home Midi System with handle it's that good

The Sony FH ones are pretty good but again not true portables, they are 25w per channel rms some of them but if you want batteries in them, you need to swap power supply with battery option one and then it's only half the power, again though I find they have harder bass. I have FH-7 and FH-7mk2 boxed, I sold this one but have another one, no batteries on these though, graphic starts at 63Hz so pretty good one

These Smaller Sony are excellent for the size, Powerful output and great quality sound

Had pairs of the Mk3, Mk5 and Mk5G. One of my Mk5Gs got stolen out of the back of my car because I was too lazy to park it on my driveway as I was playing WoW at the time... got told by my bro that someone had broken into my car.l but I was in a raid at the time. 😂

I have both modern Apple HomePod along with a Soundbar, And old school Technics amp and receiver pair with a pair of Jamo D 365 speakers.

Ahhh the Jamo D series... good memories. My dad still have his Jamo D 266's hooked up to a now extremely old Sony separates system and it sounds fantastic.

I love the older types of Hi-Fi but i cannot deny the convenience and at times crazy sound quality that comes out of some of these newer, much smaller speakers.

As for me, I run a pair of Creative Gigaworks T40's

I love those cabinets. I don't understand why they're no longer made. I tried describing one to a young man in a hifi shop (never thought I'd say the phrase "young man") , and he said "I think my grandad had one of those."
