Reimagined Arcade Art by Mike

My name is Mike and I like to create imaginary art pieces based on popular arcade titles. My dream is to do this as a full time job and share my gifts with the world.

1) The point of this thread is to show my awesome work. Don't ask me how I do this, I'm just awesome.

2) This thread is my amusement only really, I don't care what anyone thinks.

3) I'm afraid I can't sell anything because I don't own the rights to this stuff but hey, I'm sure if you really wanted something we could come to some arrangement

4) My real job is working in a sausage factory in case you were interested, I love it there.

Piece numero uno - I worked on this for literally ten minutes and I think it shows. I love the game 1943, it's just brilliant, it's got everything, planes, guns, explosions and loads of blowy up war stuff like boats and that.

One thing I always disliked about the title was the year, 1943, boooooring. So I properly jazzed it up by adding 6 years and making it 1949

(6 is my lucky number BTW)

Next the theme, don't need to change anything here, war is bad but also cool and I can't draw planes so I left them as they were. Kind of no character to the image though, PacMan has PacMan, Donkey Kong has Donkey Kong. Drawing from my past I took two characters that epitomise pizazz and showmanship, Geoff Capes and his nemesis Jon Paul Sigmundsen.

As you can see Geoff is upset that Jon is shooting his plane guns too close to his pet budgie Eric. They are black and white because 1949 is so long ago.

ENJOY!!

And that's it for now.

Here is the boring original:

Loving your work.
Whilst it's nice you haven't plastered your work with watermarks, is there a chance of making all high-res scans publicly available? Would see a bit of a strange exercise otherwise

P.S. are you superman?

Ahh knackers, you are right John, thank you for reminding me. I do everything on company equipment so officially the work belongs to my employer 'Big Dave'. I have corrected this.

As to your question about high res scans I'm afraid you've lost me. My monitor is only little so this is as big as I can make them.

I'm not Superman either, thanks for asking.

£4.99 a pack of six. About the logo? not my idea.

Onto my next piece, for this one I took inspiration from many places, as you will see. The game? Ice Cold Beer. Dave at work always calls it 'Nice Cold Beer' and I say 'Dave - it's Ice Cold Beer' but he won't have it, he repeats 'Nice Cold Beer' over and over getting more and more loud until I say he is right. It's like talking to the wall sometimes. So with this I hope to prove a point *and* bring some joy.

The lady in the original looks like she might be struggling with the weight of that big glass on the tray so I thought I would make her an alien, a bit like the green skinned ladies in science fiction films like Star Trek who might have super strength (who knows? they never say) which is why she has turned green. This also ties in with the Hulk, my third best hero.

I added an anchor tattoo to make her look hard and some jaunty ducks on her skirt to honour classic duck based games like Joust and New Zealand Story.

ENJOY FRIENDS!!

Artmaster, you have forgotten the Big Dave's Sausage Watermarks again. Honestly.

Please add them quickly before someone prints these out and tries to sell them on ebay, depriving you of any payment for all your hard work.

Thanks Mr Meister, I've used my new logo as the old one looked like that bit from the start of Grange Hill, possible lawsuit there I've always said. The new one has a sausage that looks like a smiley face and I've changed the name to something a bit more street. I'm sure Dave won't mind.

Thanks for the advice, duly noted, will make the sausages a bit darker next time

Thanks for the interest Kev, Dave and me have been friends since school. He had this mad idea about putting meat into little packages of skin for people to cook and eat, I thought it would never take off but he proved me wrong. Turns out loads of people had stolen his idea already (this happens a lot) so we started off on a bit of a back foot, yeah he was pretty upset that day in Tesco. We tried to bring variety to the market with exotic meats that Dave found while out and about like badger, owl, hamster and cat but they didn't really catch on so now we just do the one flavour, 'Simply Meat'. If I'm honest I wouldn't.

The next piece is one that rights some wrongs for me, arcade flyers were always a little misleading and some looked like whoever drew them had never played the game or just made it up as they went along which is a bit deceitful really. Bet they got paid loads as well.

So I bring you Chase H.Q - it has a dash of police brutality, a sprinkling of wrongful arrest and whole lot of good old car crashy drive-through-bush-o'rama-tactics.
