When the system asks you to press X you press 4, when O you press 5... when L1 you press 3 when R1 you press 6

On the control menu you can't map the buttons, you can only check that the buttons work on which type of joystick selected.
By the way which rgb pi os are you using and is your pi connected to a crt ?

Yes I use it on CRT and I use RGB_Pi_OS_V4_Pi4_FINAL_27_S that was distributed by the creator.

Did you ever get this working? The storage setting for external USB you're looking for is in the 'System' option. To get to page 2/2 you just need to scroll down past 'Shutdown' (although there's only 'Restart' there).
