Dave.

P.S I ordered the one i posted now , see what its like. I will report back.....

When I was at school in the mid 2000s I had a nasty habit of soldering circuits and things together in the middle of the night until 3/4am as I could never really sleep. I would do this with headphones on listening to music. One night I thought.... that's weird I can smell bacon... who on earth would cook bacon at this time of the morning... I looked out my window and couldn't see anything, took my headphones off and went to walk away from my desk and it was then my arm got tugged and I realised I was still holding the soldering iron.... like a pencil!!

The dent in all 3 fingers was horrific and so painful when I'd finally realised what I was doing! I guess I'd just got tired and not even realised.

Colin is correct , I ordered and the order went through and they took my money and now the order wont show so i contacted and they said they cant sell it to me !! I am fuming , why not say this before taking your money and emailing to say " Its on its way ". New regulations :-

I am sorry about that, due to government regulations we are unable to supply, please see the note below:

As of 1st March 2018 it is illegal to
supply products that contain lead to
members of the general public.

The CAS number for lead is 7439-92-1

This mainly affects solder products
including wires and pastes.

Yes hobbyist cant buy leaded solder at all !!!

Update :- I have a business account with them but for some reason it was showing as a ' Member of the public ' (Are we not all ??) account. They have sorted it and will get my solder to me tomoz.

My argument with them is why did they send me confirmation and take the money if that was the case ??

Oh well it arrives tomoz , I have changed it to the one with Rosin flux as well.

Dave.

I use a T12 soldering station with direct tips so no heat loss when making contact with the solder, along with solder made from non recycled metals (SRA Solder clean core) & also Gauge Master non acid liquid flux, also a flux pen helps for pcb's.

I see a new scam to get free postage on small orders.... buy 1 tube of IC sockets or 20p worth of capacitors (whatever you need), add £30 quid of lead solder to the order. Place the order.

Don't get the solder, demand a refund for that.... get 20p worth of parts with free delivery! WIN!

(Warning.... utterly made up, no idea if it works!)

I have that cheap solder that you've put at the top the lable is similar anyway
works fine with the metcal and liquid flux I don't have any issues removing it either I wonder if the mix is different between reels as they skimp on materials

Dosent flow as well as the leded dark grey stuff I "borrow" from work though but thats off a really old big reel and the lable is long gone robotech2021-08-25 02:58:02

I just finished a role that was great , Had it years. The one I brought does not heat up well ( Says melts at 183 but more like 220 imo, my dolering iron set to 411 and my sucker to 450 and still struggles) so just sucks the top 20% of and makes it flat (Crappy explanation). I thought it was my sucker until i tried it on one i had not added solder to.

That's insane. What do they think we're doing to do, eat it?

Am I missing something with these new regulations? the Silverline 60/40 solder I normally use is still available from multiple sellers on eBay.

I don't mind ordering extra if anyone on here wants some but if it's illegal to sell to the public would it be frowned upon on here to send it on to members?

Dave.

I asked on the live chat about signing up for a business account and they gave me a link to apply for a business credit account so I signed up for one but needed company number, VAT number etc. Maybe there's a simpler business one?
