I bought a rust damaged Section Z a few months back and finally went to work on it.
I gave it a good clean then powered it up to find gfx corruption & no sound.

The lack of sound was quite obvious as most of the 16 caps around the audio amp had either blown or rusted, several only had a single pin still connected. Replaced all the caps and the audio fired up perfectly.

The gfx problem was mainly off white thin vertical lines every 8 or so pixels across the whole display. So started probing and found that the two 74ls194's on the bottom board at 4a and 4b looked like they had a couple of sticky pins. Replaced these and the lines went away. The background gfx were still glitching a little so started checking the roms on the bottom board. I had already cleaned up the roms that had rusted pins but decided I should check all the roms with my programmer. When I got to Rom14 at 3E my programmer kept complaining about a couple of pins so burnt a new 27c256.

The game now boots and plays perfectly. Unfortunately I was stupid and neglected to take a pic before I started.
