Final artwork

After an epic tax party, sideart came in from the UK. The original left art was not that bad looking, but the right side was alligned sloppy and missing a chunk:

Sweats, cusses, alligment and cleanup later, this Mega-Tech is finally finished:

What a nice ending, well done! (y)
Glad you decided to continue the thread after it got derailed.

Do you have another project lined up?
Thank you! This was my in between jobs stress relief project but I really should not have let that get to me like that. I am happy about all the support I got..

Next up is restoring the Demolition Man pinball man you see on the right, which will get similar overkill treatment. I am not active on any pinball forums however, so I think this one will stay offline. I am also busy with an international effort to document and save touch arcade machine history/hardware with this site.

Looking good my friend.
Tell me......How easy was the vinyl to put on?
I have side art and CP to do
Yeah, also interested in this. I need to do the control panel.
Thanks!

So I do the dry application method; This means I align the artwork temporarily with tape, uncover a small portion of the sticker, squeegee that part down, remove the tape and then squeegee the remaining part of the sticker till done. This method has served me well and the CPO went on like a dream with the medium thickness vinyl sticker my custom print shop did.

The Mega-Tech artwork off Olly is a bit more premium as it is thinner metallic film based. It gives an amazing end finish but I did have difficulty getting the first part lifted from the non stick backing paper, and I had to be really careful getting everything properly on with the non square shape of the side art. Definitely a bit of a stressful job but it ended well. If this is your first side art, definitely recommend the wet application method from the man himself.

Does anyone know what the bolt sizes are on:

Top Marquee Plate
Top Plastic Surround
Speaker Grills

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks mate!

Cannot believe you sold it!
I have limited space here so I tend to fix machines up, play till I'm all played out, and pass them on for a new project :)

This project was especially fun with the repro PCB stuff. I like the process and giving back to the community.

The Mega-Tech is a very beautiful machine, but in terms of audio/video/control fidelity I own better ways to play Mega Drive games after all.

PCBs came in :)

Starting with the (to be open sourced) Mega Drive converter!

Before I start I have to give full credit to Nipedley. This person has done an incredible amount of research back in the ~2010 era and used to have his own site that is linked to on several blog posts of the time. Anyway, he posted his magnum opus on this random forum post from 2017 and then seemingly disappeared from the face of the internet.

He went out with a bang, though. Turns out that this random Mega file of the pre covid era contained gold. It has recreated artwork, scans, manuals, info for making custom menu roms, and a complete reverse engineered pinout of the Mega-Tech cart slot with full comparison to the Mega Drive and even instructions to get an Everdrive going.

So I fired up Altium and designed a board to his spec:

I then fired it up and magic happened:

My bonus reverse engineering efforts for icons in the menu paid off too:

I then got overconfident and tried my Master System converter, but that one unfortunately needs debugging I will get to in a future update...
At that time I builded 2 or 3 adapters like the one described by Nipedley. I even own 2 original adaper used for FIFA
Sega produced the adapter to be used with FIFA International soccer original mega drive cart on Megatech
Nipedley was able to use his own builded adapter with mega everdrive too, but I never succeded to let the mega everdrive to work on my Megatech
I was wandering if you tested your adapter with mega everdrive, if you do please let me know
If you want one everdrive I can send it to you for testing
I am still interested to let the everdrive to work on my megatech mobo
I think there were some difference from my Megatech and Nipedley's one, maybe bios or something else
My adapter works fine with most of the Megadrive games but not with the everdrive
Lately I will post my megatech cart collection, it is quite big....
If anyone needs the Nipedley files, pictures and messages I have saved all, the reserch he did was huge and it would be a pity to throw it

His final research before he vanished was here. It states you need a legit Everdrive X3/X5/X7. I only got chinese copies so that did not..
Have you tried a legit X series?

I purchased all 3 verision, directly from the original site and all of them have same problem, they start but nothing more then that
I checked the adapters I made many times and everything was ok
I am really curious to find out where the problem is.
I even purchased a secon megatech motherboard but no luck
