Sega Model 2 boot problem

Hi all,

I have built up a Sega Indy 500, that has an issue.

It only boots properly about once every 5 attempts.

A successful boot : after a short time, `FREE PLAY` is on the screen, followed by the Indy 500 logo coming in from both sides of the screen.

Problem boot, it gets to FREE PLAY, but the logo will not appear, and the game will not do anything. I just have to turn off and try again, till it works.

Any ideas?

Assuming you haven't already, first thing I would do is..
check your voltages at the board filter to make sure they are strong enough to run the board properly these suckers need some juice.. do you have original power supply i've heard of similar issues on Sega Rally boards with hacked PC supplies.

yep, it is a PC PSU that is running it, so I guess could be that then.

Ok - if thats a case its a good enough answer for me - until I source a PSU for it.

let me have a look at a manual when i get home,
I have a stack of Daytona PSU's that might be suitable, if so will pop one in the car if I come to Revival on Sunday, assuming you will be there with your VR.

you could also disconnect the power from the sound boards etc and power up with just the PCB connected, you may find that residual current left in the machine after 2 or 3 re-boots is enough to get the initial power up going to run the board, in theory if the other board are sucking too much power you may find the board boots every time without them connected and possible prove 100% it is the PSU.

Ok, well if I have time before Revival to play, I will.

I`ll be there by the Vr machines of course, and the Indy 500 will be near too, as long as I can fit it on the transport.

How much for a PSU ?

If I'm at revival PSU is FOC I have enough to build my own power plant now.

Otherwise throw me a couple of £ postage and it's yours, will check voltages between games and check it will be suitable.

Can you post a pic of how you have it wired up currently so I can see how much we may need to adapt the loom

If you want me to look at the cab on Sunday I can have a quick peek under the hood.
