Been working on a new project recently for a customer so i thought id share details as could be handy for others. I am planning to sell these kits once ready.

The basic principle was to use a pc emulated system in an original cabinet to save a cabinet missing some original parts. I also had to create a new JVS board to interface with the original cabinet wiring and the emulated system expecting a home console joystick or keyboard.

There were multiple challenges for this type of solution and at first i wasnt even sure it would be possible but perseverance pays off!

Another benefit of this type of system is that you can setup some factory looking systems with selection screens for running a few related titles in the cabinet to.

For this project the customer's cabinet was a King of Route 66 so the games installed were

- King of Route 66 (of course)
- 18 wheeler
- Crazy Taxi

The JVS side was a challenge for sure, but i managed to find a previous project avaialbe and then manufactured some fully populated pcbs with arduino controllers on them. Have 10 JVS pcbs here now so can make at least 10 kits to start with when ready.

Also spent quite awhile working out how to map all the control properly for the 3 games

So now it's working pretty nice, needs testing in the real cabinet of course but here are some pics. Still a few things to sort out but coming along nicely.

PC build is using some hardware i use alot for other systems and a reasonable graphics card, with enough power to run this stuff ok

This does look great. What sort of ballpark you looking to sell the I/o and pc at? Assuming it’s easy enough to add whatever games etc?
Thanks, Looking at £400 in total

£300 for the computer inc the graphics card, ssd and psu, and on a open frame case , plug in and go,
£100 for the JVS board, also plug in and go

Plus shipping.

The JVS board will be offered in 3 flavours:
1) driving games
2) gun games
3) regular joystick/button games

I will probably make some std game builds to go with these, but yes you can easily add other games and configure them, especially once its installed in the cabinet etc

Yes, it is a drop in replacement where you just plug in the cables to it. No modifications needed, so your wiring harness stays original
Sounds fantastic!

I’d like to maintain the original IO board though if possible as I’ve got a Triforce and Chihiro that I use in the same machine to run Mario Kart GP and Outrun 2. Is there a JVS to PC box-of-tricks like a JVS-PAC that’ll work with the PC?

…but a modern solution is very tempting. The machine has eaten a couple of IO boards too!

Looks great! :D I'm not very au fait with the whole JVS setup or even the later Sega driving cabs really when it comes to the wiring standards. I've got an empty Outrun 2 twin that needs a pair of Chihiros. It did have a pair of faulty Sanwa 29e31s monitors in it but I've got a pair of nice Nanao MS2932 31khz monitors for it. I'd like to run Outrun 2 SP on it if possible. I've got one Chihiro without the top board. I don't know what type it is for sure, I think it's a type one which can only run Outrun 2 I believe, it'd be nice to have a pair of type 3's for it so it can run SP, but I was wondering if a PC running the appropriate emulator and Outrun 2 SP (probably emulating the Lindbergh version?) would work with this board and setup - with all the force feedback working? :)

Are you meaning using the new jvs board with other emulators?

I'm not 100% sure about what you're asking, are there other JVS boards that connect to a PC? And by other emulators, I assume you mean Mame, Model 2 etc? What emulator are you using in the pics above for Crazy Taxi, King Of Route 66 etc? They're Naomi games aren't they? Also, i'm assuming that's quite a powerful PC you're running there? I've got some spare PC's but I don't think any of them are that powerful!

I had Naomi 1 games running fine on EMU with old AMD Athlon II X270 3.4 ghz, needed an upgrade for Initial D 1-3 Naomi 2 stuff on Naomi/DC Emu but

Outrun 2 SP on Teknoparrot ran great on it before upgrade

Currently i am just providing what i listed above as its nice and stable, runs fast, provides decent graphics capabilities and works without any messing about or hacking up your original cabinet harnesses.
Nice ..
Non ffb driving like ridge racer/rave racer would be a nice addition,

Would vampire night work with sega gun io ?
Instead of the namco set up required normally.
