I think supporting via the 1up link at the top gets you a load of extra points, I donated one year, didn't get anything, then the year after did the same, and went from a few hundred to a couple of thousand?

For sure donating makes a decent difference to your points, I have donated to the site in the past usually if I have sold something on here or say bought a good deal as a way of giving back a little when I can....

Wait a minute... donating gives points?

I've donated for years and I don't think I've ever received any sneaky bonus points. That said my 'VAC Backer' badge has never worked either. I guess I'm just special

I've just checked and see that I am a 'senior' member though I've hardly posted anything in the last couple of years so if posting 'thx', 'PM'd' or 'bump' hundreds of times is important (I'm not aiming that at anyone personally) then my yearly average must be quite low... however I've been on here on and off since before the forum existed in its current form, even though my 'join date' is 1999 it really predates that by about 2 years, I attended the first ever UKVAC meet and somewhere in a pile of paperwork I have got a dot matrix print of an email from 'XY-man' welcoming me to the ukvac mailing list to prove it

I suppose the question is does someone who posts sensible tech advice or does some super helpful reverse engineering/repro project and makes it available deserve recognition? Probably, but that is subjective and requires forum admins to spend their spare time dealing with requests and general childish beearching so maybe we should all agree that 'senior' just means 'old' but not necessarily 'good'....

I think there was a points bonus at some point for us old farts that have been around since the mailing lists.

I have a vague recollection of a donation drive way back when as well which awarded points bonuses.

For me personally I would rather sell to senior members and they get first dibs on any freebies I give out. Less hassle dealing with established members than noobs

Yes Mark its about who you can trust ect and respect. This is a community for arcade enthusiasts and helping people is part of becoming that community. I dont sell unless I have duplicates but have had it where I have sold to someone for a good price as I thought it was going to them (After the bullsh*t story about how they can wait to play and own) Only for it to end up on Ebay a week later at 3 times the price.

The same as people coming on here for advice and help with repairing / Pricing so they can list it on ebay and not even bother to give real collectors a chance, Thats not a community member IMO. They dont normally last long on here either.

Dave.

Should be like Bullseye " What do points make ? " lol

Senior members should mean exactly that really. Those that have been around and have contributed to the forum. I don't think I've ever posted so much crap in one thread before ever
smiley36.gif

Maybe it should be reworked so that members automatically get some points just for how long they have been registered providing they have made some post during those years?

10 years and I'm still a newb

. Probably help 100s of members with repairs, valuations and freebies over the years so doesn't seem right.

Not that I care to be honest. All this points farming I've done in this thread was just suggest how broke this new points system is

I reckon this post needs a thanks?
