Hi guys,

We're going to be making some changes to the groupings in place. Roughly speaking these are;

1) Senior Member group entry will now require 5000 points

2) New group 'User' which will require 500 points (same as current setting for Senior Member).

We've had a number of comments form forum users about the Senior Member group being a bit misleading because it really doesn't take long to get up to 500 points. You can go from New User to Senior Member in a few weeks easily. This figure was picked back when we relaunched the forum and the traffic was much lower than it is now. Thanks to the success you guys have made the forum this figure no longer makes sense!

We can of course manually bump anyone who lands in the wrong group. If you feel you're not correctly assigned just let me or any of the other mods/admins know.

End of line

Dan

I'm okay with it but have some doubts whether I fully agree with it.

For example, I'm a member for over 7 years and posted over 1,200 times but points = 1800 so I won't be classed as a senior member (Even though I think I should be). Yet someone who's a member for 6 month with a couple of hundred posts and 5000+ points is senior?

I know the points design is to reflect the "Quality" posts so understand to some degree.

As I said I'm okay with it

Its taken me 6 months to get to senior member. I have been contributing as much as I can, Pretty much every day. It will take me another 4 1/2 years to get there again now

How much do I have to do ??

Dave.

P.S I think the senior is a little misleading. I would say a Senior member would be based on time with an account woudnt it ?? Not on points or likes ?? Just saying :)

It doesn’t bother me what group I’m in, but imo, 5000 points seems a bit high.
I fully agree that only 500 points is too low to be in the senior member group, put it would take a hell of a long time to get to 5000.

Perhaps somewhere in the region of 2000-2500 points could be used instead?

While I think this is an improvement, 5000 points does seem a little high, there must be a fair few users who have a couple of thousand posts and been here years that wont be classed as senior.

Not saying this will happen and I will speak to the other mods and admins. But does everyone like Senior Member? Should it be called something different?

Should there be some kind of legend 'killscreen' status that J+ had?

I'll take a look at the ladder system later and points needed for each step and share internally with the team. Maybe we can do something more with it on top of fixing the 500 point issue.

We'll also be clear on the point system and report the points you get if someone says thanks to your post or you get a thread rating etc etc.

It doesn't gain you anything! It's not like you get special "Senior Member" raid discounts!

It really doesn't make any difference to anything at all.

So why make the effort to change it all then

And it makes little difference but can potentially affect user engagement. Gamification 101.
