As a kid and a young teenager, we usually took our family holidays in either GT Yarmouth, Lowestoft, or Bournemouth. I loved the arcades there but occasionally we’d visit Blackpool. Blackpool was like the Mecca to me: Loaded up with 10ps I felt like a kid in a sweet shop with a seemingly endless choice of seaside arcades to visit. If my favourite game at the time wasn’t in Mr. B’s for example, it’d surely be in Coral Island.

Now times have changed. The arcades I loved as a kid on the Promenade have had to change to survive. I still do enjoy walking through them for some reason; trying to find a Sega Rally tucked away in the corner or a Class of ‘81 still in use.

Things are always changing at Arcade Club, which, for us customers, is a very good thing. You put the kettle on, turn around, and another floor has appeared! I took the opportunity of the Williams Defender Meet-Up to take a good look around and and record for posterity how things are today. It's always a pleasure to visit this awesome arcade.

Count These EIGHT Historically Important Video Games At The Arcade Archive near Stroud in Gloucestershire.
There's more than 8 of course, it's just that I was running out of fingers.

Last month Victor and I went to Chicago to see the sights (arcade machines). The views were amazing (arcade machines) and there was tonnes of stuff to do (arcade machines). Here's a four-parter of the BIGGEST ARCADE IN THE WORLD, by the number of machines under one roof, The Galloping Ghost. Here I am pictured with Doc Mack, owner of the Ghost. Off camera, we talked about all sorts of interesting and intriguing stuff (arcade machines). Have at it, cheeky chops xx

Ah, Dave & Busters. Me, Vic and Tori (Vic's Wife) went to one in America. It's not for us retro-heads, as you would expect, but there's enough of the new-skool drivers / shooters / fighters / rhythm games to keep you going if that's your thing. There's also a big emphasis on playing to win virtual 'tickets' on a lot of the games which can then be cashed in for real-world prizes that seem to get people hooked.

Before I intend to visit a place, I often look at the ‘Live’ stats you can find in your browser, and the little bar chart telling you the place is ‘As Busy As It Gets’ can put me off going. But that, in Arcade Club’s case at least, is when the club is reaching full ‘capacity’. This means they monitor customer numbers so there is still enough room and enough available games for everyone to play. I suppose they could let in another 100 people at that point but no one wants that.

Nowt to do with the Rocky Horror Picture Show, Timewarp Arcade in Bridgwater Somerset has established itself as the South West's go-to retro gaming venue. Owner Stuart Tracey talks about his plans for the Work-In-Progress second floor.
