I was recently listening to a podcast and one of the presenters said that they never knew, until recently, that in PENGO, you could vibrate the walls to stun the snow-bees.
(I think it was our own Victor on Ten Pence Podcast)

I only recently found the following on games I played since they came out in early 80s:

10 YARD FIGHT
Wraggle Stick to break tackle

AMIDAR
I thought that it was impossible to work the route out on the bonus levels. I now know that there is plently of time to work it out and get 5k bonus.

Being one of the main features of the game, I'm not sure how anyone missed that lol

It took me ages to realise you can climb back down the vines in roc n rope, changes the dynamics of the game.. at that point I realised reading a basic gameplay guide was not cheating. This is where spending time watching people play in arcades used to be really useful, although evidently only if they are better at a game than you.

I never knew that Pengo thing either. The game is so hard, I hope this helps a bit.

In The New Zealand Story I love how Tiki can fly! Just terribly.

I take it you have never watched the attract mode...

Bombjack, if you repeatedly tap the jump button, it slows your descent. I didn't realise that until I owned the game. It was the second PCB I bought when I started collecting back in the 90's.

A vital mechanic of the game. I only found out after years of playing that the colour of the power P is significant, when collected.

I knew about tapping jump to glide (and holding up to jump faster/higher). The air control you have is great for its time. I had no idea about this P colour thing though!

On the Wonderboy high score table, if you hold down the jump button you can enter lower case letters.
I didn't know that. One thing I only noticed when getting the PCB is Wonderboy's occasional little run pose. You can see his running sprite on the 'press start' screen do it every 10-20 seconds, but he also does it in game if he has a long enough uninterrupted run.

Maybe not quite in the same category, but when I learnt that taunting three times in a round with Q in SF3: 3rd Strike, his attack and defence is boosted. Became my main after this 💪

A recent one I discovered is on Ghouls n Ghosts (Daimakaimura). I didn't know you could charge up your magic by holding down the fire button when wearing the gold armour, and then let rip. Only just discovered it playing on my SuperGrafx. ☺️ Not that it's that great in a game this nails hard, as it means you can't shoot while charging.

I was at Arcade Archive this weekend, they had the Super Grafx version of Daimakaimura, although the colours are a but muddy it's much closer to the arcade than the MD port which I grew up playing. I can rattle through the levels ok until I get the last one, it always kicks my ass.

I think the SuperGrafx version is supposed to be a bit more forgiving than the arcade. Not sure, but it a really good port.
