Afternoon Everyone,

Hope you all had a nice Christmas?

I've taken a break between the festivites to write another blogpost. This time round, I'm stepping away from the usual arcade-related shenanigans to explore why old music and vinyl records still matter.

Clickee linkee and see what you think.

Cheers!

I'll have a read of that. My mate came round other day and said he bought his lad a Turntable coz he likes playing records, he's only about 8 :)

I'd happily play records and still have all of mine I had as a kid, trouble is buying Vinyl, most seem to think condition goes on looks alone and class as mint only to play and find it's really poor, then you get some that look awful and play great, so I tend to buy everything on CD that I can and resort to vinyl of no CDs or too expensive

Best sounding LP i have is Adventures of Stevie V, bass has more punch than the CD and the vinyl has barely a crackle all way through

It matters ……. How else do Smooth and Heart Radio and various MTV channels remain so popular playing the tunes of the last half century and even beyond?

I for one sadly play and listen a bit less , as a more self confessing TV addict in older age ? Tho still young at heart / appearance/ in mind / in video game mode ……..

Being an ex operator of jukeboxes vinyl & cd and latterly download I have had to have a broad interest to enable my meagre wealth and also as a mobile disco party DJ , I have played and hoarded thousands of vinyls ……. It’s very satisfying to power up the odd old jukebox (we have a Wurlitzer Zodiac in the lounge) or a vinyl play deck and spin the odd few oldies!

So much so this Xmas we gave one of our grandsons ( age15) a rejuvenated Sharp vinyl record player we retrieved from the attic recently.

The drive belt had turned to sticky chewed ‘Blackjack’ sweet like mush and before I checked condition , a quarter of the perished belt wrapped round the motor pivot ‘ what a mess’ but new belt found easily on eBay and good as new again.. so along with a few 80s K-Tel 20 dynamic hits albums and other hits now type 12” LPs we had a ‘happy bunny ‘ grandson

The player ,in his eyes was a better present than the 6’ pool table combo air hockey , the two boys’ dad assembled late Christmas Eve…. Bit funny !!!!!

Safe to say really old tunes in any genre will still be desired for some time yet and it’s generally seen that vinyl at present is making quite a revival and increasing in value as a result too - happy hoarder here !!

I think many ukvac members also have personal collections of music wether it be vinyl , tape or cd , like old video game pcbs could live forever - while interest remains.

Nice blog !

Later edit : He sent a picture on Xmas day of said Sharp deck as he connected the speakers ready to play …look at that smile - well done ‘santagrandad’
