Space Harrier unboxing unwrapping video

Yesterday I managed to have a good look at my new cab that came in to Germany on Thomas' container. Many thanks to Gavin once again for sorting the UK leg of shipping.

For a bit of a laugh, I decided to video my unwrapping of the machine, sort of like an unboxing video thing that seem popular on YouTube. I didn't know what to expect really with the cab, only that it was listed as a project, so thought it would be fun to record the highs lows and any pleasant surprises.

So anyway, I ramble on for about 15 minutes, but here's my Space Harrier unwrapping...

Thanks for sharing the video, I am glad it arrived safely. I am not sure why some cabs were shipped just pallet wrapped and others had a cover over them.

Great video. I have a better bezel coming free soon that I believe only has 1 fag burn if you need one. That boardset mounting plate on the back door is upside down, hence the boards are by the way

Cheers Jodo - I might have a look at that bezel after I've seen what this looks like cleaned up.

I figured out that the whole back mounting plate had been put on upside down, (embarrassingly however, only after I spent a few minutes looking for mounting holes for the board feet if I was to remove them and put them the other way up.

I'm managed to get all the plastics off and generally, apart from the couple of fag burns and a slight scorching of one og the dial plastics where a bulb has got too hot - they are really good.

One question I do have for you - what colour should the flight stick handle be? Should it be black, silver, or just plain polished metal?

Flight stick is painted gunmetal grey - it comes off over the years to reveal the dull metal underneath. Silver versions of the same stick were used on various other cabs and will fit but Harrier was gunmetal grey

Nice one! Space Harrier was definitely one of my favourites in the arcade.

Did you say you have a replacement monitor for it? ETA on a potential switch on?

I shall get myself down Halfords and pick up a can.

Regards monitor - I have a spare Hantarex, but I have a question in the technical section - I'm unsure if i can directly drop it in as the PSU will output 100V for the stock monitor, I'm unsure if a Hanty will work as they normally need slightly more?

We need the exact Hanty chassis model to be sure but it's likely that it will want more yes.

I have the same cab from the US and with an expensive Airlink (the best imo) step down, I had issues with the marquee light flickering and not coming on at all sometimes. I converted the cab to UK 240v and it's been 100% ever since.

Nice result with the bag & manuals, makes me wonder what cool things people have found inside their games. Maybe there's a thread for this, if not I might make one.

OK..how about 'Metallic' gunmetal grey?

It certainly looks that colour on my sticks but I haven't colour-matched it to be honest

I've got a nos control panel at home if you can wait to get back.

Pretty sure it's either satin black or the brown ish zink playing Sega use on everything. It's not paint, I know that much.

There was a gun metal coloured handle, not sure if that was used on rail chase as the same handle was used on many games but they were different colours. IIRR I've got a nos rail chase one somewhere.
