I need to put some stuff in to storage asap, I have a cab coming at somepoint from Martin, and with the baby due any day, its not allowed in the house! plus my full magazine collection needs to be stored too. Cheapest I've been able to find is: 35sqft container in a warehouse, £10 a week including insurance and they allow monthly payment. So thats £43 a month. Plan is to build a games room next summer out in the Garden when hopefully I have some money and then bring it all home. I guess a 35sqft might fit a few cabs in.

Is this a good deal? or does anyone know of a cheaper way. I don't think I really need more than 10sqft to be honest, but the place with that size room was the same price as above.

stick in your loft (mags not cab)

chuck some stuff out to make room

ask yer parents :)

3 options dunno if any avaliable

id be warey of a metal container over winter , lots of condensation and water drips off ceiling when gets warmer ..

ive got 2 x 40ft trailer backs for storage and they are ply lined but the roof aint , so even though dry from outside weather the metal roof can freeze then condensate and drip down hence why ive got my stuff covered

Yeah, don't go with a container unless its been internally coated. Your magazines will be stuck together and mouldy after three months. I had a 20ft one for 6 months and most of the stuff inside was wrecked, luckily it wasn't my stuff

Its a wooden container stored inside a warehouse, with many others, they do house removals as well..see the pics info below..

I used a big box storage place before when I was moving home for my mags, that was a metal room in an air conditioned warehouse, my mags and games collection survived there.

Its tempting to put the mags in the loft, but I already have Control panels, boxes and boxes of Video Games up, they weigh a stupid amount, we are talking full runs of CVG, Mean Machines, Nintendo Magazine, Total, Super Play, Retro Gamer etc there are 1000s. The mags are stored in plastic tubs as well, and most individually bagged. Its the cab thats the main issue. If I put that in the shed it will die.

Ultimately the frustrating thing is, the £520 I spend over the next 12 months, could have gone a long way to paying for the games room. Family are located in Cornwall, I am East Sussex, so thats a no go.

Another option though labour intensive is to take the logic boards out of the cab, and possibly the power supply and monitor chassis (the tube should be okay) then stick it in the shed on wooden blocks to keep it off the floor and throw a cheap duvet or blanket over the top. If you are really keen then you can also shrink wrap the cab and install a 120 watt tube heater from CPC -though at 3 units a day if running 24/7the latter may not be cost effective.

Currently the cab has no monitor or CP anyhow, I'd be taking out the pcbs before it being stored where ever it goes. I am getting more and more resigned to just gutting it and putting the shell in the shed, making the shed as cosy as possible. Maybe put the mags all over the place and sell some. It was going to be a full on resto when I have the games room. Early next summer I'd get cracking on building a new home, so its more like 6 or 7 months and I'd save the cash towards that.

Are the mags an essential? I have thinned mine down recently since I realised I'm never going to read them again. I had full runs of RG, Zero, Your Sinclair and Mean Machines but they took up a hat load of space. Made some cash on them too to reinvest in other areas. I did draw the line at the 2000ad and Scream comics though. That was never an option

As the wife said, sometimes you realise you have too much sh*t and something has to go. Stupid, sense-talking wife...

I hear you milky, I am not sure if anyone else out there has the full set f C&VG, it took me ages to get from Issue 1 in 1981 through to the end in 2004. I have toyed with getting rid of maybe up to 1985, as they are more serious computer type stuff. Snes is my era, so would not let ago any in the 1990-95 period. They are certainly worth good money though and good help out with my overdraft and baby costs. Its hard to let go, I had to axe about 200 books from my collection to squeeze the magazines in downstairs at the mo.

Saying that I don't miss the books, so maybe it will be the same with the mags.

To answer your original question - yes, it's a very good price. A 40ft container was costing me £110 per month back in 2008 so £10 per week, even if it's not as big is a bargain.

Martin.
