Taito Space Invaders Part 2 Side Art has faded

Has anyone ever had this problem. The game was obviously next to a window as only half the side has been faded by the sun. I want to try to keep the artwork as original as possible. Is there such a product or technique that could restore the paint or at least help to make it look better. I don't really want to put new vinyl on the sides unless there is no other way, I'm not even sure if there is a red Taito set out there. Anyway what do you guys think. What is the best way to go.

Seems these cabs were very prone to sun bleaching the red. The three they had in Blackpool were washed out as I recall. Luckily mine hasn't suffered that damage, only a fan of Adam Ant scratching his idols name on the side! Well, at least it's retro graffiti of its time!

Hope you get yours sorted - great cab, great game!

Short of completely sanding the side(s) down and starting from scratch, I'd use thin masking tape to 'block mask' the writing and characters and paper off the bottom part. Then using a scalpel / craft knife, carefully cut around the letters and characters leaving nicely masked out parts. Then completely spray the bleached area with grey primer and then topcoat. Of course, you'd have to get a close match to your original. The result would be nice

I did a few test areas today, The first was a bit of cut and polish. i started on the worst area which is the left side of the cab, it looks like the paint is to far gone for it to do anything, I can see through to the undercoat already

I used novus plastic polish on the right hand side the photo doesn't show it but the paint is in better condition. This side I might actually persist with.

What do we think should I just tape off everything that is not red and paint it.

Yes. And while you were at it you could fix the damaged laminations. It would look the nazz if you take your time!

Yes I was afraid it wouldn't be as smooth as the original and the taping might take a while and let some paint in, but I'll take my time and make sure its all neat and tidy.
