Is it so that ultimarc optipac /ipac etc is compatible with active low devices and Taito spinner is a active high device ?

Requiring a utility to set the ultimarc devices to be compatible ?

From the FAQ on the Ultimarc site.

Using Active-High devices.
Almost all optical controls are active-low, which means the outputs are actively pulled to zero volts, or left "open", depending on the position of the optical spoked wheel.
If your device is "Active High", it will pull the outputs to 5 volts, or leave "open" depending on the wheel position.
The Opti-PAC can be configured to handle Acrive-High devices using a simple software utility. Just click on the check-boxes for the inputs you need to be set to active-high.

Am i doing this correctly ?

From left Right , 5v , ground , left .

Then in mame go to dial

if this Taito spinner is working
Should it register in dial option in mame?image.jpg

Dial analogue isn’t even set to mouse X ?

And the Taito spinner is non functional at he moment

I did have 5v and ground round the wrong way .. doh

So have i fried the resistors ?
Or the opto sensors ?
Or both ?
Or nothing at all ?

Measured the resistors I have resistor 1 2.5v one side 3.6v the other side of it.

Resistor 2 I have 2.5v one side and nothing the other side ?

So that seems wrong to me …

Shouldnt they be reading the same if they are ok?

I don’t get the way ultimarc have screen printed the Opti-PAC …

P1 spinner has Y1 & y2
P2 spinner has x1 & x2

I can’t find a wiring diagram
I’m assuming I have wired this wrong !

I have wired direction outputs to y1&y2

I think now I need X & y right ?

Probably not good but to test should you not have your dmm across 0v and 1 of either y1 or y2 then see if the reading changes as you 'block' and 'unblock' the opto. Might be best to take the opto off of the spinner and use a bit of card to do this. Also I'd think that y1 and y2s values would be opposites in that 1 is a high value when opto is blocked and other is low value then they reverse when the opto is unblocked. Not got one to test unfortunately my only 'spinner' pcb is a taito field goal which I've soldered a 4k7 pot into the loom and play the game with a pot trimmer lol still got 37000 lol. Hopefully someone will give you a definitive answer but you could try what I've said to gather more info, good luck and hope it's not damaged.

You dont need X and Y for a single spinner as it is only one direction.

It has X and Y so you can add 2 spinners, X is usually horizontal movement and Y is Vertical movement, but its not really important if mapping controls in Mame, would only be important if using two spinners to operate as a mouse, bit like an etch-a-sketch type control.

From your screen pic did the Ultimarc program show the detected optipac so you could use the send button at the bottom to send the change to it? As it shows as no detected so the send button isnt available.

Yeah pots won't work as a spinner, but the oscilloscope using dual channel will tell you if your spinner opto is still working correctly after the accidental voltage reversal. Be aware though that it's possible that it could still look like it's working but the levels might be too low to actually work. But you should be able to work out the correct levels from the optos data sheet. I take it that this is for a taito arkanoid pcb with it being a taito spinner.

Thanks bones :)
Nope it’s for mame with ultimarc optipac with the pull up software download from ultimarc…. I do also have the multi in 1 vertical that has hook up for spinner to try out I Think it’s compatible ?

Check device manager see if its installing a driver correctly, will still make the bing when plugged in even if its not working correctly, will have a warning on the device in device manager if its not installed correctly.
