Jesus! It’s probably best to sell your stuff on here and fb marketplace etc and just donate a bit of cash to the site instead of all the eBay fees ? Providing it’s not an Argos Winchester set of drawers……believe that’s been tried before if I remember 😀

Isn't it like 35p on a £100 sale? A liberty I know but hardly going to break the bank. The real piss takers are bricks and mortar auction houses who take big fees at both ends

Yeah, I guess so. But unnecessary. Charging me for something I'm already well in control of and submitting to HMRC.

Things have well and truly gone to the dogs in UK PLC, but just to post again below a copy of something I put in another topic in case not seen - it's all a bit of scare mongering really and won't affect the vast majority of people:

And on the tax issue worth checking out the 'official' HMRC guidance here:

And visit here and select 'sold goods or services':

"You do not need to pay tax on personal possessions you sold for less than £6,000."

And that does not includes cars nor does the below!

However: "If you sold a personal possession for £6,000 or more, and made a profit, you need to tell us about this income. This is because you may have to pay Capital Gains Tax on the profit you made."

You don't need to worry really unless you're 'trading' (ie buying or making items to sell on) or selling very big value items. As ever HMRC like to put the frighteners on Joe Public.

Probably end up making a loss and having to pay eBay just for the privilege of using them, which seems to be the goal they're working towards. 😆
🤣
I wanted to add.-
What about the money a seller spends on eBay ?
Is that deductible from any monies / profit made ?
For exsample I like to use eBay to trade my stuff. But it just so happens they use the £
If it was eBay tokens would any of this matter ?
Would tax be eligible then ?
I don’t really want £
I want to be able to just trade my items on eBay for other peoples items period.

Is there now room for a credit based online swap shop- For people like me not looking for pounds in return just tokens to use against other items.

I think so.

Ebay haven't been bothered about small businesses selling on there for years as they don't need them. They are only interested in the big businesses selling tens of thousands of items every week. Why else do they keep adding fees on? They just don't care.
It's just like everything else on this planet where it starts off pretty good and then turns to shit over the years. Remember rail travel when it was fun / relaxing / quiet carriage only with the rare idiot and that has now turned on it's head with cattle class / phone shouters/ piss heads /cackling hags / shouting competitions etc etc. Is it just me been less tolerant of fecking idiots or is it just the way society has become? Maybe I've just had a large garage bill and am pissed off with it all?

I'm still not going to lose any sleep over 42p and not entirely sure the government can be blamed for eBay's cash grab. If you don't like it don't use it but for fuck sake can we stop the politics and conspiracy theories please.
Why have eBay added it then just after the government announce the cracking down on ebay sales not paying tax, and who else can you blame for everything else in the UK going down the shitter if it's not the governements? :geek:

I never said I was bothered about it either:ROFLMAO:

eBay is introducing a brand new seller fee in what it said was a response to government regulations in Europe. Beginning April 8, 2024, the new fee will apply to all sales from listings on the following sites: UK, Austria, Belgium, France, Italy, Ireland, Netherlands, Poland, Spain, and Switzerland.
"To address the rising costs associated with the increasing number and complexity of regulations, including consumer and environmental protection, as well as new taxation and customs measures, we're introducing a new regulatory operating fee," eBay explained in its announcement on Wednesday.
"This fee is calculated as a fixed percentage rate (0.35%) of the total amount of the sale (which includes the item price, postage, taxes and any other applicable fees), and is subject to Value Added Tax (VAT), where applicable."

There's no cap on the regulatory operating fee, which will first appear on sellers' May 2024 invoices.
