[ukvac] Tech: Cabaret maquee removal
Hiya,

Does anyone know how or what special tool is required (and where to
get one!) to remove the bolts which hold on the marquee on Atari
cabaret's. I've seen these bolts holding on speaker grills on lots of
Atari cabs but until now never needed to remove them.

I've tried all the security socket set attachments I have and allen
keys but none of them seem to do the business.

Regards
scotty

Just remembered I bought mine from "Snap on tools" ... there is a van that
drives round selling tools :) Also Mac (same thing, can drives round) next
time you see one in your area run out in front of it and stop it! :)

I got a 12 piece torex driver set for 12 from MAC, although snap on sell a
8 piece for about 5 that will do the job

Gorf and Tron joysticks use them too. (security TORX, not "torex")
I got a 32 piece set from CPC for a tenner.

Its called TORX and there is also Torx-plus which has a hole drilled through
the centre, get the plus ones if possible as these do both.

Tip:- it ya ever come across the torx-plus and you only have torx driver
bits, jewlers screewdrivers breaks that internal pin no problem, then a trox
bit will work.

Cheers for all the response.

I do already have a set of security bits which include TORX which
I've successfully used to replace Tron joysticks, etc. But these
marquee ones are too deep to use a socket set with. So do I need to
get some with which are longer (i.e. not socket sets), hope I'm
making sense?

Cheers

The marquees on the Atari Cabarets were not designed to be removed as
they are riveted on! To remove you have to drill with about a 1/2 in
drill bit slowly until you remove enough of its head so you can chisel
it away. To replace I guess the best way is to screw them in with those
special screws with the hole on the top which accepts a small plastic
(black) cover with a pip which wedges into the hole (a la MFI furniture)

Re: [ukvac] Tech: Cabaret maquee removal
Atari battlezone Caberet machines (x2) i removed the marquee from one of
them, but XY is indeed right, they are rivetted in, they are a real pain to
remove, possible, but a real pain. I only had a pair of pliers and sheer
determination.

I don't know where the rest of you are getting the TORX and Allen key
stories from :)

Allen keys allow you to remove the lip at the top which allows you to remove
the monitor plexi and get at the monitor..

seeya!
