[ukvac] Tech: Creeping Monitor Image
Hi All,

This should be an easy one for all you monitor guru's.

The display from my 20" monitor is 'creeping' outward eg. the image
at the far edges of the screen are now out of sight. This doesn't
affect gameplay at the moment, but I don't fink its gonna get any
better!

Is this a cap thing, tube thing or a chuck it in the bin and get
another one thing??

I know nothing about monitors - except they have a habit of frying
people who know nothing about monitors :-|

Any pointers gratefully received.
Thanks,
Gaz

RE: [ukvac] Tech: Creeping Monitor Image
If something's creeping out of spec then I guess there's a cap gradually
becoming less 'whatever it does!' somewhere, but at the moment, just
locate the H-Size adjustment probably on the board, but if you're
unlucky in a 'ferrule' (is that the right word?) and bring it back in if
you can...

That's if you haven't tried that already!

If it is in one of these 'ferrule'(?) things, then DON'T adjust it with
anything metal, they're supposed to get V Hot V quickly. Don't know for
sure as I always adjust them using a plastic screwdriver.

Again, if it's one of those things, then you'll only get a very small
adjustment out of it. Replacing the relevent cap (hell, replace the lot
it's easier) will regain the required adjustment - probably ;o)

What monitor is it? (should have asked this first!)

Guddler.

Thanks for replying!

Yes, there's no H-size adjustment (V-adjust and everything else but H-
size!). No idea what a 'ferrule' is - where's that Maplin catalogue??

Guess I'll need to talk nicely to the local TV repair man - never
done anything with CRT's before :-| Might get some friendly advice
on what to touch and what not to touch! I've checked the relevant
web sites for info, but I'm still not SURE!

The monitor is in an Out Run deluxe, it's a Philips KO5X -
MVA48ABKO5X if this means anything?

Cheers,
Gaz

RE: [ukvac] Re: Tech: Creeping Monitor Image
Definitely a Phillips monitor, not just a Philips tube?? If you're going
by any stickers make sure they're attached to the chassis not just the
tube. If indeed it is a Philips chassis, then accept my apologies!

If I get a moment then I'll take a picture of (or find a link to) the
bit that I'm talking about, although adjusting it WILL mean getting you
hands right in there which I find a bit unnerving when it's on, but it's
one of those adjustments that takes forever if you do it when it's off!

NB: I'm NOT endorsing fiddling about inside monitors while they're on -
I do it entirely ay my own risk, I'm kinda lazy like that!

Guddler.

hmmmm, good point. The Philips sticker IS on the tube, though I
can't find any markings at all on the chassis. There are some signs
that stickers were their, but they've long gone (

So if anyone knows what make of monitor was original equipment on UK
made Out Run's........

Cheers,
Gaz

Yes, thanks. Incidentally, where did you get this info? Was it a
sticker on the chassis, or some sort of marking - there's nothing on
mine.

Cheers,
Gary

Re: [ukvac] Re: Tech: Creeping Monitor Image
Gary,

There are usually a couple of stickers on the big metal heatsinks on the
chassis - if not, i think there is some information on the back edge of
the
pcb , near where the power and video plug in... you may need to blow the
dust away ;-)
