[ukvac] TECH : Crystal Req?!
Chaps,
After much pissing around with Yamaha and 6502 chips, I worked out why my
Robot Monsters PCB is giving a 'sound CPU not responding' error - something
has fallen off the PCB!!!
Due to the expertly way it was packed (i.e. - no bubble wrap and a CP with
hall effect sticks crashing around all the way from the US) what I assume to
be a crystal of some kind has snapped off (amazing it is not the only
thing!)
By wiggling it when in the sound test, I get music, effects and speech, but
then it comes loose and I get a communications error!

The bit that has come off is a silver 'flat cylinder' about the size of a
fingernail - it has the following printed on it...

R X D
M P 4 9
3.579 545
KOREA

Can anyone a) tell me what it is for sure, and b) tell me where I can get a
new one to solder onto the PCB!

I'd really appreaciate help from anyone...
Thanks in advance,
Paul

well, the important bit is the 3.579 (maybe with the 545 on the end), as
it's the frequency of the crystal (in Mhz usually)

Mike,
I realise this may sound totally stupid - but I have a faster crystal
(26.601712) in an old NES which is in bits!]
What will happen if I use this?!
Cheers,
Paul
