[ukvac] TECH: Invaders DX
I have recently picked up an Invaders DX board. I can only get it to play
with horizontal monitor orientation - the monitor in my Jamma tabletop is
mounted vertically. There doesn't seem to be anyway to change this in the
menu either. Seems kind of strange given the original SI used a vertical
monitor.

Does any know if this can be change, or am I going to need to perform some
surgery on my tabletop?

Also, I thought the colour version was going to be pt2, buts seems to be the
original game with colours from pt2. Does anyone know if such a version was
ever released by Taito/Midway?

Cheers,
Steve

Can't be changed.

I think the horizontal orientation was deliberate as the game as now
popular as the 'space invaders that works in a horizontal cab'.

SIDX = horizontal monitor. nothing you can do about it. Some plonker
didn't tell you it was a 'SPACE INVADERS' board did he?

You get 3 version of si (+ 2 updated things)

b+w with the 'moon' overlay thing - like the upright.

b+w cocktail with the colour overlay stripes - note the miss-aligned
one. nice touch that :)

b+w cocktail completely b+w no colour overlay.

Taito DID make a Colour space invaders cocktail (not part2 it WAS
original si) but I don't remember it in siDX.

yep. chronologically it goes:

Taito B/W SI cocktail + upright
Midway SI upright + cocktail
Taito SI 'color' (cocktail only as far as i can tell)
Taito SI part 2 (b/w monitor, perhaps using up old stock?)
Midway Space Invaders 2 (cocktail only 2-player head to head)
Taito SI part 2 cocktail+upright (colour monitor)
Midway Invaders part 2 (midways label of SI part 2) (upright only)

Taito invaders revenge (1985)
SSI '91 etc...
etc...

i've owned all of the taito table versions, the b/w SI tables vary quite a
bit depending on where they were built etc. the question of monitor overlays
is still a tricky one.

There are lots of ways to roughly tell when along the production life of SI
tables an exact table was made, this depends on control panel fixing style,
power input style, transformer block layout, labels inside the lid.. there's
no definitive way precisely, but i've seen 3 or 4 different styles of b/w
cocktail SI.

One day i might get round to doing a definitive guide to all the variationa
and permutations possible, and a rough gues at when they were built :)

I can't help but trip over cocktail space invaders. I'm begginging to hate
them i see so many. Don't ever let anyone tell you they're RARE! :)
