[ukvac] [TECH] - MPU4 / Crystal Maze Problem
Well I guess Crystal Maze is a Video game so its fair to post a teaser about
it on here.. (and also theres some fruity techy people too who can help..)

I today aquired (Thanks Nige.!) a lovely Crystal Maze Mk1 Cartridge for my
Crystal Maze (Mk2) Cab. But there seems to be a problem.. On the blue boot
up screen 'Resetting SWP V....etc' I get an error message saying 'No
Dataport Comms' and it will sit there and not budge.

BUT if I run the game with the back door open (where the game is on a
'freeplay') the game works no problems. I know I could run the cab with the
door open , but it doesn't pay out :(.. Its odd because I can put the
original cartride backl in and it works as normal..

Looking at the MPU4 board the 'DataPort' looks like a serial port of some
description but I know that the Mk2 board doesn't need anything plugged in,
so I can't guess the Mk1 would (or am I wrong???)

Anyway.. HELP!!

Kip

You have a "data Prom" in your program cart.

Basically you need a "non data prom"

The data versions are used by the big companies to link to their computers.

There is a sticker inside the back door at the bottom saying "Dataport
fitted" - I'll have a look tonight to see if there is anything
obvious...

Cool..

Basically I think there should be something that plugs into the 'Serial Port' thing on the MPU4 board that your cab has, and mine doesn't so if you have any bits that have a 25-Way D-Type connector floating around on then thats what i'm after..

You have it wrong kip

You need a non data chip set. The one you have only works with a data retreival system.

I hope you didn't pay for it as you have, if you excuse the pun, been kippered

Can't you just plug in a datapack key?
I have one you can have if you want.
