[ukvac] tech needed: outrun (again)
I have been heavily looking for info on repairing the fault on my outrun.

The only thing I have come across other than the FAQ and is the mutterings
of a common
sound & video fault. Which is exactly what I have..

The music is coming out in full stereo (well both speakers) but I am only
getting the beats no actual tune. Same goes for some of the sound effects.

The other problem with the video going corrupt in places, Is the video
board a common problem on sega hardware ?

system16.com states that HangOn etc.. all use the same hardware. Does this
mean it is poss for me to swop the roms over to a working HangOn board? (as
i know where one is)

I know this is a repeated request for help..

But if any one can supply more info on the Outrun PCB otherthan what is in
the FAQ.

Thanks

Jon

Sometimes, If you look carefully you will probably find that the
connectors that go between both of the boards are not soldered to the
PCB (they are push fit connectors), these connections can become
tarnished and intermittent. A little solder can help here.

To an emulator author, they are indeed very similar, but in terms of
hardware, they are all quite different. An OutRun board is identical
to a Turbo OutRun board, but both are completely different to a Hang
On Board. The CPU board of OutRun is the same as the one used in
Super Hang On, but the graphics boards are different.

I've got a working Hang On boardset as well, and I doubt that it will
be possible without some major modifications as there are a different
number of ROM sockets.

What do you need to know? I've repaired a few graphics faults on
these boards in the past.

Dave.
