Been a while in the planning but finally here....

Now to get the electrics fitted and decent insulation in the walls, and some sort of heating. And some cabinets!

Hope to provide more updates as the build progresses.RolyRetro2016-07-30 01:01:11

Fair size

Had to make a small concession for the garden equipment, so lost 3 feet to a shed at the far end. But I reckon I can get 6 cabinets across the rear wall of the building with no problems, and plenty of room to spare maybe for a cocktail or 2

What's the size of it if you don't mind me asking? I'm moving soon and looking for something to put the cabs in and that looks like a decent size.

It's 17 feet by 10, and max height to fit with building regs (under 2.5m)

I've sacrificed 3 feet of the building for a shed for the kids bikes and mower, leaving me 14 feet width.

Bought from Carrs in Wickford.

Quick update, shed now primed and painted so it blends in with the garden a bit more. That is until I source a dirty great neon sign for it!

Electrics going in next week.

Wow I'd say I have shed envy but I'm not there yet - would need to get past my garden envy first... I live in a 2nd floor flat :( One day though, both garden and shed will be mine!

Would it be too rude to ask how much that lovely wooden edifice cost?

Not at all, I'm pleased with the relative bargain I think I got so I don't mind sharing.

The main building was less than £4K installed, Including the insulation in floor and ceiling, rubber roof and double glazed panels. I'm now painting it myself, fitting consumer unit / electrics and insulating the walls before boarding with ply and then plasterboard.

So maybe £5k all in excluding my time (free labour).

Similar size bespoke garden rooms start at twice the price so this worked for me, but still a chunk of change and I think it could be done for less, particularly if you could pick up a second hand shed and can do the work yourself.

Do it, you know it makes sense....

Very nice!! What are you gonna do for heating?

Going to get a couple of fixed panel heaters, will be flat panel design with thermostat to maintain temperature in the winter, and keep those cabs toasty warm. Insulation will help, as will the double glazed units I specced.

Still looking at best approach for ventilation to allow air to circulate, to keep moisture out and heat in - can't do air conditioning so will need to maintain natural airflow via some vents.

Quick update on progress - moved inside now and sparky has completed first fix (I'm not taking credit for the work this time, just having to work harder to pay for it). Have had to upgrade the armoured cable heading down the garden to cope with all the cabs running at the same time (maybe 7?) plus a pinball and 2 panel heaters.

Also got some sockets higher up in the walls as thinking of putting in a pub video jukebox.

Next up, the insulation, plywood lining and plasterboard later this week.

Looks great!

Any idea what the lifespan of one of these sheds is?

When the mortgage is paid off in a few years I'll be sorting out something similar for my cabs, I'm lucky to have a single garage at the bottom of my garden with enough space to widen it to a double garage.

Cheers.

The roof is good for 10 years plus according to the shed people, and if it's set on a good base with no standing water and lots of ventilation the shed will be too. Painting it helps prolong the lifespan too, as well as looking better (in my opnion) than plain wood.
