Hehehe... I was going to say nobody asked if you were good at the game.

Now I've seen you play on the cab, one thing I did notice.. are you sure the original game would have used a digital joystick on the left side? It strikes me that the game seems very much designed for analogue controls, and Atari were of course already doing this at the time.

So yeah, if you are completing the game on an 8-way joystick with switches, that's pretty impressive.

Yeah the left joystick is an 8 way, I also feel it would be better with an analogue stick to get finer control over the Gunstar. The right stick is analogue and seen as a mouse input and after a bit of tweaking of the mouse speed/sensitivity in regedit, i have it pretty close to where it needs to be. I couldn't find a proper analogue arcade flight stick that is seen as PC joystick.
Still hunting for options but it plays well enough for the time being.

Absolutely beautiful build, congrats.

When you're not playing Starfighter, would it be heretical to multi-game some X-Wing in there?

If I did I'd probably go with this...

I read somewhere that Namco bought the code that was developed for Starfighter from Atari and turned it into Starblade.

After playing a few games I've decided that the left (tracking) joystick does need to be changed.

It's an 8-way like a standard Zippy, the switches are too clicky and there's not enough fine control.

I'm going to replace the left stick with the same type as the right stick, the left will be programmed as an analogue joystick and the right is seen as a mouse input.

I did a quick test by reprogramming the right stick and it works well.

The coin door reject buttons don't have lights behind them so I wanted to fit some LEDs to illuminate them.

I had some old LED striplights but they can only be cut into groups of three (if you cut just one off and wire it up to 12v it won't work).

I removed the LEDs from the strip and fitted a 1k resistor to the supply and glued them to the housing.

Perfect solution...
