Those computer mag adds were to blame

I had a few of their huge posters on my wall. C&VG was my favourite mag, in the early days.

Those were the days my friend
I Couldn’t wait on c and vg coming out each month
Especially when mean machines was going and also their arcade section

It had the arcade screen shots on back of the box

Page 7 of Your Sinclair May 1992. I seem to remember there being a full page ad in one of the issues for the T2 cab alone though. Coincidence that it's worth £4000 like the Amiga and 37" TV? Nice Silverline 26 there as well!

That’s what it was .The adds in the computer mags
Why we can’t get away from arcade machines
One stand out add in a computer mag was
Have the supersprint arcade machine in your bedroom
We bought the games and pretended we owned them ,didn’t we ?
I’m just playing my 720 and remembering how much I played it on the spectrum .tape blasting
Now I need to move it up to the bedroom
Arcade machine in your bedroom was the dream .wasnt it ?

I never saw the 720 machine that I can recall, but I played it quite a lot on the C64, music wasn't bad on Commodore though so didn't need the tape

Would have gave my dads car away in exchange for Double Dragon cab in my bedroom, though I'd have to sleep standing up, would have been nearly as happy wining this

There are some incredible examples of magazine ads you'd never get away with these days. Possibly with good reason. Here are two classics from the 90s.

I remember them giving Athena in a suit case like that in your Sinclair
I’d of loved it at the time. Though renegade would of been better by a long way

Though I can’t think of any decent conversions ,in fact I can’t think at all

Many games were also like 5 FPS which you couldn't really appreciate from a magazine photo.

I may have just wasted an hour looking for this. At the time the concept of putting a TV on a shelf and standing up looked like the best thing ever.

Yeah, if you were minted. 14" CRT would've let it down a bit, mind.

It has got me thinking about back then - that lot plus an arcade PCB would've set you back around a grand in today's money.
...Utterly no one I knew would've had anything like that. No I knew imported a PC Engine, no one could afford a Neo Geo.
I don't think I was in a particularly poor area either.

I wonder a bit of it is is because the parents spent any disposable income on other stuff as they weren't the video gaming generation, so it would've seemed an absurd expense just for the kids.
