I was of the opinion that the TG challenge forum was a dark and depressing place - but I just read through the 385 Million Roby thread and on the whole they were pretty supportive once the originator got involved.

However, would I even consider submitting a score to them? Probably not. I cba with all the bitch in and sniping.

I was off work today sick and had nothing to do so I thought I would watch the King of Kong again because of the recent revelations. I know that there was a lot pf editing in the documentary so that there was a good guy and a bad guy, but in retrospect, its now pretty funny seeing all of the controversy about legitimate scores and the hypocrisy of certain people.

Arcade high scores are weird. Back in the day you were usually just competing against friends or strangers on the same machine.

People who are competing for high scores are by default going to be competitive.

Therefore, they will look to maximise their score. Much like an F1 team looking to exploit the ruleset, not necessarily dishonestly.

Due to the disparity between joysticks, cabs, ROM revisions and even emulators, I can't see how a score on two separate machines is directly comparable as a result.

The way forward could be some sort of reengineered version of MAME focused on runtime integrity of the code with security keys and central server authentication.

Until then, I'd always take any high score with a pinch of salt myself and keep score competitions a little more local and casual!

£10 says he does an alex jones and talks about pertinent or important information for 5% of the time and the other 95% is about advertising his hot sauce brand

No disrespect to the guys who post records on TG.....but.....a lot of records pale into insignificance when compared to high scores that Japanese gamers have achieved on games, most of those kind of scores are not documented on TG.

You just know there are guys in Japan that have maxed out Donkey Kong long before the west caught up, like I said I'm not belittling the guys who achieve awesome scores on games such as Donkey Kong, I'm just stating my opinion here.

Achievements such as the 'perfect Pacman' that Jon stoodley achieved are what I call world records, done in full view of everyone and recorded live for prosperity. There are not many people who can do that sort of thing, Jon is a legend imo.

Theres a time line of the right of the page, starts mention of it about 52 mins mark and goes on for about 20 minutes with constant interruptions by the host and his "crew" asking why Pacman is yellow amond other pointless questions.

Doesnt really go much into detail about it other that Billy saying that if someone views the original tapes submitted to TG and not copies then it will prove he wasnt cheating. Also says that any score he did live he had nothing to do with the hardware in the cab.

Interestingly he mentioned he has had 2 movie offers in the last couple of days which he couldnt go into.

Trying to watch that is painful. Did anyone sit through it? Did he touch on the MAME scandal?

He starts of by avoiding the subject and talks about how his 1982 score was witnessed by time magazine.

Later in the interview (1:06:40) he brings up MAME, he says has never played MAME and doesn't have it loaded on his computer at home. He doesn't dispute the analysis, but says that it wasn't the original tape. Then says he gave the original tape to twin galaxies and if they've lost it then it's a big problem. He then goes on to say that he doesn't think they lost the tape, but that twin galaxies is going through a growth spurt.

He appears to be confused about what tape is being discussed though as the one that was analysed was supposed to be a direct recording from the output of the arcade game that he recorded at home but then sent to TG to show at an event. Yet he claims that when twin galaxies gets round to checking the original, they will see pete bouvier(?) on the tape because it was recorded live at an event.

Billy looks uncomfortable when Richie Knucklez phones in, as if he doesn't know what might be said, but then Richie said he believes what Billy says as they are best friends. What followed was a pre-arranged conversation about how someone else was going to submit a fake tape to TG to discredit them & that it was the person who provided the tapes for the analysis.

Nobody is saying that Billy always cheated, only that they have evidence of one time that he cheated. However his defence is offering proof of single events where he didn't cheat & not addressing the one time that he is accused of.

It looks like he's constructing a defence from various unrelated events and is in denial.

Or alternatively Billy is telling the truth and it''s a conspiracy by the LLC.
