The middle of that kinda looks like the very thing it's meant to be wiping off! You know that middle part's just going in the bin when you get to it. Cardboard is recyclable no ?

Some of these modern ideas baffle me. Can't have a plastic straw with your Coke because of single use plastic but it's fine to have a big plastic lid on it 🤔 I'm sure probably a valid reason for that mind.
This is the insanity of the climate and environmental scam which is just another way for the rich to get richer through Greenwashing etc

removing cardboard roll from toilet paper as you say it's easy to recycle is total insanity

plastic straws gone for paper ones covered in toxic chemicals and this is from BBC page

You've probably had this problem: you order a smoothie to sip with your lunch, a morning iced coffee or your Friday night cocktail, and it arrives with a brightly-coloured tube of paper sticking out the top. After a few slugs, however, the tube quickly flops in on itself, forcing you to take it out and leave it on the table in a wet, pulpy mess.
Paper straws have become almost ubiquitous in bars and fast-food outlets as the hospitality industry has rushed to ditch plastic in response to a consumer backlash. But while they may not linger in the environment for 300 years or so like those made of plastic, paper straws leave a lot to be desired.

A recent study has also highlighted another potential concern. Paper straws assessed by researchers at the University of Antwerp, Belgium, were found to contain more "forever chemicals" – per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances or PFAS – than plastic. These long-lasting PFAS can stay in the environment for decades, can contaminate water supplies, and are associated with a range of health problems. (Read more about where forever chemicals come from, how long they last for and how we could clean them up.)

and what about the Paper cups with waterproof coating inside

Sorry, Your Paper Coffee Cup Is a Toxic Nightmare

Supposedly eco-friendly cups are still coated with a thin layer of plastic, which scientists have discovered can leach chemicals that harm living creatures.

A recently published study shows that paper cups can be just as toxic as conventional plastic ones if they end up littered in our natural environment. Seemingly eco-friendly paper cups are coated with a thin layer of plastic to keep their contents from seeping into the paper, and this lining can emit toxic substances. “There are chemicals leaching out of these materials,” says lead author Bethanie Carney Almroth, an associate professor of environmental science at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden.

When trying to assess the environmental impact of takeaway coffee cups, most experiments have focused on plastic lids and polystyrene cups. Paper cups have long been spared scrutiny. To address this oversight, Carney Almroth and her colleagues tested the effects of paper and plastic cups on midge larvae, which are commonly used in toxicity tests. The cups were placed in temperate water or sediment and left to leach for up to four weeks. The larvae were then kept in aquariums containing the water or sediment tainted by the paper and plastic cups. Regardless of the source of the contamination, the larvae grew less in the sediment, and exposure to the tainted water also hindered their development.

The power of advertising and social engineering has got everyone going to all the coffee places, mc donalds wasting there wages on something you don't need
What did people do years ago, took a flask with them, not only is it cheaper but you don't have the millions of tons of waste they then blame the consumer for, through the covid nonsense all I saw was neighbours and other idiots going to local coffee shop to get a drink, you can make one at home, make one in a flask and take it with you on a walk, if there was a real pandemic you wouldn't have fast food and coffee shops open, ffs o_O

They just keep coming up with more insane stuff all the time to resolve problems they created getting everyone hooked on all this junk fast food full Hormone-disrupting chemicals and you wonder why so many guys have man boobs these days lol

everything they come up with that is supposed to "save the planet" is what's causing pollution and harm to the population, animals and the environment

Flame retardant chemicals on all this furniture is another, they say there saving lives by destroying health and environment

How are people exposed to flame retardants?

People can come in contact with flame retardants in a variety of ways.
  • Chemicals can leach from products into the air and then attach to dust, food, and water, which can be ingested.
  • Chemicals seep into the air, water, and soil during manufacturing or application.
  • Similarly, the burning or dismantling of electrical and electronic equipment (e-waste), can contaminate the environment with these chemicals, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.

What are some of the potential health effects associated with flame retardants?

Learning how these chemicals, and in what amounts, may cause human health effects is an area of active research. Although flame retardants can offer benefits when added to certain products, increasing scientific evidence shows that many of these chemicals may harm animals and humans.
Adverse health effects may include endocrine and thyroid disruption, immunotoxicity, reproductive toxicity, cancer, and adverse effects on fetal and child development and neurobehavioral function.

Can't imagine why so many people have health issues these days can you? this is all fact based stuff from official websites no conspiracy stuff

you don't hear about all the people in the grenfell tower fire that have serious health issues due to the flame retardant chemical poisoning in the mainstream media and it's apparently been covered up in the fake inquiry's too, anyone gone to jail over the cladding yet? like the post office scandal NO ONE

Probably quite right about these things, You can feel the plastic coating on them so doubt they're recyclable. But by eck you can't get a coffee this good out of a jar and flask 😂

If it's in a proper cup that would be much better :)

Not just paper cups with plastic lining, you have aluminium drinks cans to lined with BPA, aluminium is toxic to us to start so not sure why you have food cooked in aluminium foil, trays etc

Has anyone else noticed how much better Coca Cola tastes from a glass bottle, out of plastic bottle like 500ml it's like the plastic is leaked into the drink as you get a different taste, not that I should drink coke it's probably as bad as the chemicals, so probably as bad from cans as plastic bottles

Bisphenol A (BPA) is an organic synthetic compound serving as a monomer to produce polycarbonate plastic, widely used in the packaging for food and drinks, medical devices, thermal paper, and dental materials. BPA can contaminate food, beverage, air, and soil. It accumulates in several human tissues and organs and is potentially harmful to human health through different molecular mechanisms. Due to its hormone-like properties, BPA may bind to estrogen receptors, thereby affecting both body weight and tumorigenesis. BPA may also affect metabolism and cancer progression, by interacting with GPR30, and may impair male reproductive function, by binding to androgen receptors. Several transcription factors, including PPARγ, C/EBP, Nrf2, HOX, and HAND2, are involved in BPA action on fat and liver homeostasis, the cardiovascular system, and cancer. Finally, epigenetic changes, such as DNA methylation, histones modification, and changes in microRNAs expression contribute to BPA pathological effects. This review aims to provide an extensive and comprehensive analysis of the most recent evidence about the potential mechanisms by which BPA affects human health.

We have gone backwards in many ways, I watched this on BBC a few years back, it was quite interesting about landfills
can't imagine how bad it's going to be with all the buried solar panels, wind turbines, lithium batteries, electronics and all this so called eco friendly toxic crap

It's worth a watch anyway, not that I trust much on bbc these days

Having been in the situation of not having any available, multiple times in my adult life, predominantly in dive venues or festivals, drinking the day before and eating nothing but rubbish... I'd be thankful of that roll. There are few things worse than doing the shuffle of shame.

It is a gift @Retroman839! Enjoy it!

If this was the 80s it would have caused an uproar in local primary school authorities as the raw materials for kids building structures would have been wiped out overnight!
