So I thought i'd put the Rtype bootleg pcb I had up for sale on eBay. To see if it is worth selling stuff on there again.

To cut a long story short wish I hadn't! Had some communication to say the pcb doesn't work with his supergun. So I asked him to return it. I tested it last night and the pcb appears cooked

I sold an AMD processor on Ebay a few years ago, which definitely worked when it left me. But the buyer emailed a few days later and said it was DOA. I'm sure he either zapped it with static or OC'd it and cooked it, but I couldn't prove anything and didn't want negative feedback, so ended up refunding.

Ebay blows goats.

Thanks to examples like these, I won't be selling on Ebay. Probably ever.

I've done it a couple of times in the past, and they went well, but it only takes one idiot basketcase to have your hands full of S#1t and your money down the drain...

Yeah I always insure my eBay sales (with ParcelFarce) because of this, I've only had one instance of this being a problem before but it meant I got the full sale price of the auction back. Plus, as I got it sent back I used it for parts (which was a bit hit and miss as quite a few bits were fried).

Haven't sold on eBay for YEARS with 1 exception, for fear of exactly this kind of thing. The one exception was when I sold my Kindle DX. Which I put up for BIN and it sold within 8 minutes. Thankfully that went smoothly as it was about £250!!

i had one guy constantly hound me to meet him half way (about 1.5 hours drive) so he could save on postage costs on a SF2 bootleg that didnt get above 99p. I ended up cancelling the auction and have never sold anything on there since.

Funny you should say that. The only problems I have had
selling items on EBay is to aresholes in Ireland!. A while back sold 2 Intel motherboards with
CPU's working when they left me as I have sold loads and always test fully
before posting, then I get a message saying both are not working LOL. Ok send
em back and ill refund you. Checked them when they came back and one was dead
and the other had had the CPU removed and replaced bending the pins in the
process

Lucky there as they forgot to ask for the money back and I
heard no more about it

Then a few weeks ago I sold an ID card printer to somebody
in Shank hill Ireland. Contacted me to say it would not print. Ok send it back
and ill check it, and I even booked and paid courier to collect it. Anyway
after all that turns out the printer ribbon just needed pushing back in

but the
buyer managed to open the unit and knock off a surface mounted capacitor which
was rattling about in the freaking printer when I got it back, but I ixed that and resold it for even more.

I won’t be sending expensive electronic items to Ireland
again, and the problem with Ebay is they always favour the buyer if a case is
filed

We sell lots of things through ebay at work, Its a nightmare.

The feedback thing has always got sellers by the balls, buyers can demand all kinds of special treatment, using correct wording so that you know that they will leave you bad feedback etc..

I know from personal experience that it effects your "best match" position and when selling items everyone wants to get to the first page...

we always get the "oh i havent received it where is it..", "i just recieved this but it was a day late I thought I would email you first before leaving feedback"...

Gumtree all the way !

If you sold the same pcb on this forum and it got fried, would you tell the buyer tough luck? Are you saying everything you sell is as-is no comebacks?

I wish life were that simple.

Yes, but most people on this forum would know how to plug the pcb in the correct way, or not fluff it up on a shag pile carpet, or wash it in the washing machine and then dry it off with a blow torch...

Problem with arcade stuff is you need some rudementary idea of what you are doing in order to use it without killing it. Therfore I don't see how a seller can cover all angles unless the buyer collects in person and sees the item running but I bet even then there's a chance they'll get home and then complain if it doesn't work. I have had some minor issues in the past but touch wood I've been lucky with the few things I have sold in the past year. I do think ebay has been on a downward slope for years though although that could be applied to the internet in general -in short once something is ubiquitous it is broken....

Ebay has gone downhill ever since they stopped the seller leaving negative feedback for a buyer.

The seller is now held to ransom for everything, even if its the buyers fault!

I avoid ebay if I can.

Aren't there some ebay exemptions for electronics? no returns etc?

My favourite was selling a Flying Shark bootleg which 'stopped working after a day'. It transpired after a few emails that it actually stopped working after the guy put it in a dishwasher. I didn't refund that one.
