BTW re: sidewinder - after you sent me that list of chip IDs I combined it with the ones I'd derived myself and I think I almost have one of the boards coming to life. That's right, the only bit of PCB repair work I get to do in the past 6 months is for you.
If I get some time this weekend it's quite possible I'll be able to send you a screenshot of it running. I hope it's good, cos it's been f**king hard work!
For anybody else who is interested, it's a couple of boards out of some old machine but instead of using normal 74 series marked chips, the manufacturer employed a relabelling scheme so for example, an LS74 is actually labelled B119. Makes troubleshooting fun, especially as there are no schems and no table of Bxxx to 74xxx. So it's been a case of desoldering carefully as the boards are more than a bit flaky, sticking it in the ABI for a chip ID and then putting the chips back. sh*tty, but satisfying. Of the one I'm focusing on it's now got intermittent reset to the Z80 instead of being utterly dead, but also has a transistor and high wattage resistor combo which heats up periodically that I need to get to the bottom of.
